Fantastic. The Luftikus freebie modelling the same EQ is just not as smooth (and i did null tests to make sure it wasn't my ear playing tricks). The only bad thing about the maag is that it doesn't have auto volume compensation and you need to turn gain down manually (you may initially think.. it sounds louder and therefore better!) This is one of those few plugins i will always keep no matter what. The curves are very sweet. The air band is perfect IMO. Make no mistake, this is a sweetening EQ, and is for boosting. I love it! For the current price, which is low even by plug in alliance standards, it's a bargain. Hope that helps.

Pretty much nailed my experience with it. I put it on the master, cranked up a couple of bands and then, wooa sounded awesome but look at the levels. Over to the level trim.

To be honest, without turning down the gain and just allowing it to slam in the limiter more sounded great too, tho I'm sure that's not the way to do it.

There is really nothing quite like it. I do get tired of the fixed frequencies though.

But that's it's charm. I am so happy it HAS fixed frequencies. The point is, don't they usually sound great? Same with for example pultec frequencies using the pultec low boost trick to add oomph. It just works, on so many source, and one doesn't need to hunt as much.

I think we have more than enough EQ plugins that can do absolutely everything, so to have focused specialised tools like this that you know will work when you just want to add some brightness quickly, for example, is wonderful.

I think the thing with the maag eq is that because it boosts all frequencies when boosting one knob, the curves are much smoother than a much more focused boost by a traditional parametric eq. The same thing can be accomplished by applying a more modest boost on any other digital parametric eq and applying a slight gain boost on the output to match the targeted curve. If you boost all frequencies by the same amount and use a frequency analyzer to match the gain, the curve is almost completely flat.

Same here. When I got word about that Luftikus thing, I downloaded it and compared them side by side. Each of them seems to do its own thing... I don't know if one (or both) has the frequecies wrong, but when I had roughly the same settings on both, the Luftikus sounded harsh and brittle.

Throw it on the Kick drum, push the 40 and lower the 160.
Slap it on the Bass, lower the 40 and push the 160.
Instant "track spacing".

I've had the Maag now for about a year, and I can't see myself selling it anytime soon. It's not an everyday EQ, it's not even a very versatile EQ, but it can make everything fit together just a little better if used right.

If you're in the market for a "colouriser" EQ, then go for it!

I use DMG Equilibrium for all my surgical stuff and Maag for the air band - works a treat to brighten up muddy sounds

What was that current price? Now 2 months later it's just too damn expensive ($171 at AudioDeluxe).

Well, over the holidays and until just recently I think you could get it for $99 - even a little less at AD.

If you really want it, just keep your eyes open for another sale and in the marketplace. If you sign up for their newsletter you will also get advance notice of any sales. If worse comes to worse, also maybe they will do another sale again at Christmas. No guarantees, but you never know.
