Dub Machines (Max for Live)

Post

Hi There.

Pete from Surreal Machines here. Great to hear all this feedback, thanks.

@aMUSEd, thanks for checking them out, and really pleased you like them. I am just wondering, what sort of things are you looking for in "stereo panning controls" that the 'Stereo Width' controls do not give you? I am just interested is all, as the co-developer!

Thanks for any further feedback,
Pete .

Unless I'm mistaken width affects the whole field bilaterally doesn't it? Whereas pan would allow me to create movement from one side to the other (which is a nice dub technique).

Post

Yeah, thanks, that is a fair point.

I guess I shouldn't make my first post to KVR whilst tired ;-) But i'll risk this 2nd.

We felt in terms of features on Magnetic we were already pushing it, and there are panning effects rolled into the modes. In Diffuse there are balance effects rolled into the modes.

Your thoughts are definitely going on my development list though, thanks.

These delays are lush. Nice work :)

Post

As I'm not a Live user, any plans making these VST at some point ?

Post

@No_Use not at the moment however VST/AU is something we've been thinking about later (not much later) down the line for some of the bigger ideas we have.

Post

what i want is the sound in my head
which is warm and filthy
with not much space but loads of depth:

https://soundcloud.com/reflektor-6n6p/ice-queen

all the sounds here have been resampled through the character module in Magnetic
all reverb is Diffuse except some residual verbs in the samples
the delay is Magnetic
all samples are mine i been working on (a lot from very lofi sources) for a while
i can't begin to tell how different this stuff sounds
and how different you have to think to mix with it
i've tried normal reverbs and delays and saturators etc
i think i might retire them all...

Just bought it and wanted to congrate the developers, huge stuff here.
I was thinking "I really don't need one more delay, I have everything I need with Live stock plugins+maxforlive", but I felt those devices seems special after listening to the demos + the videos.
I can't stop playing with Magnetic, fantastic device.
Its saturation alone is worth the price.
Excellent work fellows !

Post

Love it! Congrats to the developers. Especially love the saturation this gives. This is a serious sound design tool. And cheap too.

If there was one thing I'm missing, it is to midi map the snap buttons on magnetic so that I can use these beautiful machines in a live setting.

Post

Really great tools. I find the sound a was looking for for ages instantly .....
And the feedback you can generate in Diffuse .....love it so much.
Thanks to the developers for this great work.

For anyone that is interested, Create Digital Music has done a typically great job on the backstory to the devices here:

@interceptor, we hear you regarding snap buttons! Long story! More info one day…

Some more stuff on Surreal Machines’ Dub Machines:
http://youtu.be/3Zhoa71oqiw
This can be used with any samples – obviously
And is a quick and dirty method for lazy people like myself
This:
https://soundcloud.com/reflektor-6n6p/freeroish
is a quick run through of ideas for a gig next month
all sounds have either been pre-processed with Dub Machines
and/or have them inserted on tracks
and/or sent to fx busses
This adds a lot of dirt into the spaces
And, for me, negates the need for reverbs

Those look excellent!
Out of interest, what is the delay (latency) added by using Max for Live?

Daniel

The same as a vst, one audio buffer from your sound card

Post

These look (and sound) excellent. I plan to pick them up later today.

[edit] and bought. Some of Magnetic's presets are very CPU intensive. Up to 58% on my laptop with nothing else loaded. :o
