Bidule Plugin and Plugin Delay Compensation?

I've read the following thread here: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 3&start=15

But I'm still having a hard time figuring this out. So I have an instance of BiduleVST on my master bus in Cubase, and have added 2 UAD plugins which have latency. I do see the 3rd box to the right of the stereo out for each of these plugins, and if I hover over the box it says "latency in samples" but does not give me what that latency is, nor do I know what to do now.

According to the thread above I should now insert a Building block -> Delay line and when I do a plugin is created with 3 inputs but only one output. How do I delay a stereo signal? Also do I need to do both of the UAD plugins, or would just putting this at the end work?

Attached is a picture of where I'm stuck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Think of it like this:

- those UAD plugins are introducing delay into the audio stream, so at the moment everything running through this chain will sound late
- if you add in a delay line, all your doing is introducing more delay to the audio signal

What you need to do is this:

- connect 'Monitoring-> Audio Value Display (Terminal)' to the right most output (Latency in samples) of the UAD plugins
- add up the values
- double click on the Bidule Plugin Output
- enter the sum of the latency values in the box and press enter

This will report the latency of the UAD plugins to your host which will then delay,in samples, all the other channels by the value you entered into the Bidule Plugin Output box, to compensate for the delay reported by the UAD plugins.

Does that help?

Thank you for your help! I tried it out and got a latency between my two UAD plugins of 4335.0 however as soon as I put this into bidule output under "user specified latency" and push play on my project, cubases SPL (song position line) takes a 5+ seconds before it starts to move, and is WAY off in relation to what I am hearing. Cubase is also real sluggish and takes a good 3-4 seconds to stop playback. Even bypassing bidule doesn't help, I have to actually physically remove it before playback functions correctly again.

edit: oddly enough I set the user-specified latency back to 0 and everything is playing back correctly and seems to be in time with my DAW visually. WEIRD! Anyone know whats going on so I can hopefully prevent this in the future?

If you read through the other thread you linked you will see that Seb from the plogue team says that not all DAWs handle plugins dynamically changing the reported latency in the same way. They are one of the most active support teams I've seen on any audio product and will always help resolve these kinds of problems. There may be a quirk in the way Cubase handles it, so post up on the forum and see what they say!

Same goes for the preset problem. I've used Bidule for 12 years and every problem has been resolved, pretty much every feature request added. It's not one of the more popular products here on kvr and you are better off on their own forum for more specific problems, like the one you describe.

Don't give up quite yet! :)

Thank you very much for sharing your information! I'll give it a go over on the Bidule forums and see where it goes! Thanks again!
