From Waves, I'd say Cobalt Saphira is probably the one to try...

I was going to say the Burnley 73. I got it over the holidays and it's become my go to saturation device. Adds a great bite to synth sounds while not killing the bass end so much. And it has an EQ you get for free

i'm using all these in a way were if i can here it then i went to far but if you bypass the plugin it sounds like something is missing

I got a whole range I like. Everywhere you look you can find something decent to use. SPL Twin Tube, Trash, Vertigo. VSM, Waves Vitamin, Aphex and Cobalt Saphira, the list goes on.

Then there is just grabbing a guitar distortion box, and blending it in with the original. Tube based distortion tends to work best for this or overdrive style, but other types of distortion pedals can be great with the right source.

SDRR 2 is only 23 €. And Lindell 6X-500 CM can be found in the Computer Music magazine's content. It's pretty nice too.

Oh, and Wave Arts Tube Saturator Vintage is free too. Also very nice.

Airwindows:
* Iron Oxide 5 – old school, heavy colored saturation plugin that is most useful when used on individual tracks and buses.
* ToTape5 – tape emulation for use on mix bus (master track).
* Iron Oxide Classic - more transparent version of Oxide 5.
* FromTape - simpler version of ToTape5.

All these plugins are free and very good. Airwindows have recently released another saturation plugin called PurestDrive, so you should check that one out as well. I haven't tested that one yet, but I'm quite sure that it is as good as other Airwindows' plugins.

PurestDrive is incredibly subtle but great. I like it on the master bus for an extra 1% of shine and glue.

Density is fantastic for fat overdrive on single tracks.
