Oh and SevenString, What is Amper? doenst sound like one ive heard of???? maybe i have, got a link or something?

These amps ought to be grouped and rated on each of its qualities (especially the free ones), and a web link attached. I don't know much, otherwise I would volunteer.

Amper is a Creamw@re SCOPE-based amp sim. Kind of unknown, except to Creamw@re users.

One advantage is that since it's DSP-based, it doesn't eat up CPU cycles, and doesn't have any latency. But it ain't free.

OK well i made up a list of all the amp sims we got so far and a link to each one. i didnt really rate them on quality or anything cause i would guess thats more of a matter of oppinion or what your going for in the sound. so heres the list, a few i didnt know so feal free to add any to it or give me any links i dont got

There is another one, mentioned in the last Computermusic, called GXSTACK. Some crunchy sounds and others, I liked the demo, depends on what you're after.

The freebies of simulanalog are great! And so are Fretted Synths free ampsims and other sound-shaping vsts for guitar and bass. All free!

One thing to mention would be that I had written to them why they used challenge-response. Their answer was: okay you're right, we don't use challenge-response any longer . That's great I think, at least for people with a weak PC. Nice.


edit: I just read your list. I think "Tubester" is from the same people who make GXSTACK, but I can't find it anymore on their site.

Yea Polarity made Tubester, i cant seem to find it either. but for some reason GXStack doesnt work for me, i install it and then it just says my 30 days is up for the demo and ive never even used it lol. weird. i gave up on it after a bunch of jackin with it

I read from the simulanalog site that they have "Vintage Suite" coming. Im not sure what it includes, but the name points at something vintage...

exeSkidds: What do your nickname mean? Do you play in Skid-row? What kind of music do you play? I have tried many simulators, and I think the JCM 900 is the best. I place their DS1 or SD1 before the JCM 900. Actually Steinberg Warp can give some frightening metal-sounds too. It is very cheap now.

gunnare: no i dont play in skid-row lol sXe in my name is short for Straight Edge it means drug free alchohol free, generall against putting harmful or mind altering chemicals in my body.

Skiddz is part of my last name and my nick name to most of my friends.

I wasn't aware someone ported some of Tim Goetze's plugins to vst (unmatched and preamp2). I studied Tim's work awhile ago, when I started working on Tubebaby. Unfortunately the vst port is a quite obvious violation of the GPL, since it comes without source code. Makes me wonder if the original author is aware of it...

This is great! Maybe you can edit this same message as we get our info together and bump it once and a while. I think someone just posted the link to another of the ones that we don't have addresses for. I'll try to find addresses for some of the ones we have missing.

Also, maybe we can put a code or legend up to show which ones are free (F), Commercial (C), or Non VSTi (N), along with the (F) or (C) as it may apply.

Then, we can start testing them and giving our opinions on the varying qualities of each.

In the end, we may have a few favorites that we can, as a group, state exactly why we like them over the others. I'm especially interested in the free ones.

Unfortunately, they've said that for several years without even updating the page. I'm grateful that they at least keep their current page up, because a lot of people have lots of really good things to say about these VSTs.

Hey, I had the same problem...I wrote to them and immediately got another demo. It's too with a time out (the last one was May25, and I downloaded it in June ). But I think if you are interested, they'll send you a demo soon. Or the right one is on the website now?
