Channel levels export

How to do this, that and the other. Share, learn, teach. How did X do that? How can I sound like Y?

Hi,
I have a few questions:

I have some VST channels I wish to export for a mix (*.Wav files) and I want to know in what level should I export it?
What I did is to export each channel no more then -12 DB max.
Is it the right way to do it?

What about vocal tracks and the final mix, in what level should I export them?

In what state should the mixer be in?

Is there a guide that gives away all this data (mixing volumes), and also some good material for mixing for beginners?

I also want to purchase the Waves plugins suite, is there some guides out there which can help begin mixing with it?

Thanks!

The levels doesn't really matter as long as they don't clip. Make sure that bit-depth is high enough, so that you don't have to worry about quiet sounds.
If you are going to give your stems to someone else for mixing, then it's better to export both dry (with no FX) and wet (with FX) versions. Also I suggest you asking that person, what are their preferences (levels, format, etc.).
Wonder whether my advice worth a penny? Check my music at Soundcloud and decide for yourself.
