How crucial is stereo to a mix nowadays?

How to do this, that and the other. Share, learn, teach. How did X do that? How can I sound like Y?

back2basics question. nice. i watched alot of dave pensados videos, and he pretty much in one video said he doesn't even check things in mono.. 'everyone listens on phones and ipads, and tvs are stereo as well' - stereo is the only IT, says he. i still think no mix is good if it cant hold its own in mono. i have alot of tarnce that rubs out a little in mono from time to time; definate phasing issues, but sounds stellar in stereo. technohead and proud, phasing issues or not

I do agree stereo is more enjoyable than mono, and if listening in stereo only makes little difference if compatible, namely the subwoofer band. It's well accepted that a recording be mono-compatible for the enjoyment on almost all listening systems.
