Considering it was recorded in 1965, Freak Out! has always amazed me. While nominally produced by Tom Wilson, Zappa certainly had a hand in the production too.

Some 70's and 80's fusion and jazz stuff, e.g. Maputo by Bob James and David Sanborn, or Nautilus by Bob James.

But also R&B stuff like Babies by Ashford & Simpson or a lot of Loose Ends and SOS Band songs.

Good choice. I have not heard it in a long time, but now that I do, I remember that I always liked the way it sounded.

It was such a great time in musical terms, the Art of Noise' Moments in Love etc. :)

Interesting to see so many Trevor Horn productions in succession...

Sade's Solider of Love album was also produced very well. Especially on the headphones it sounds amazing.

I get the impression that the use of reverb and space is one of the secrets to great sounding songs, Trevor Horn also knows how to do that.

The Propaganda stuff also sounded quite good, also produced by TH.

But there are also more isolated jewels by bands who not always sounded that good. Heartbeat City by The Cars, Broken Wings by Mister Mister, Devil's Ball by Double, Mama by Genesis, Life's what you make it by Talk Talk, Voices by Russ Ballard, I'm not in love by 10cc, etc.
