I also make different types of music under different artist names and they range from electronica (most of my cryo stuff) to pop to alt/folk-rock and I rarely make music with an intent to pigeonhole myself into any given genre. Multiple selections would have been nice, but since that's not possible, I went with the stupid fish option.
What music genre do you produce *Poll* (check 1st post for info)

I think this poll should be sent to the admins so they realise that this site isn't all about hip-hop. The site design looks like it's focused on hip hop.

electronic is way too broad of category.

And the category African, or Asian, is narrow enough?ATS wrote:electronic is way too broad of category.
All the categories have that problem in common. It'sthe natureof polls & finite options.
To focus on one broad category in a list of many, suggests a certain ignorance on the depth of all other genres.

I'm not really sure if one category/genre is a useful choice here.
In my case I could be in Electronic/experimental/Rock/Blues....whatever my beakus is into....

I'll gladly carry the flag of pop music, with whatever influences from other genres I am in the mood of.
But why is there an asian and african genre, but no european? Isn't that a bit racist?

This is what happens if you create a poll based on your own beliefs It only reflects opinion of OP and not music scene as a whole. This is not going anywhere. But why is there an asian and african genre, but no european? Isn't that a bit racist?

This is why I have issues with Asian/African category...there are numerous music genres that are in there that we lump into one giant melange. How about working on a serious poll instead of this kind of thing?
And more choices please.

Well, this is getting out of hand.DJ Warmonger wrote:This is what happens if you create a poll based on your own beliefs It only reflects opinion of OP and not music scene as a whole. This is not going anywhere. But why is there an asian and african genre, but no european? Isn't that a bit racist?
I have no idea why the OP created this poll, or what he hoped to learn from it. But in his defense, he did not create the categories. As he said in the initial post:
[Bold mine, for emphasis.]I am not going to put every sub-genre in here, but I'll try to cover most of the main ones. If you choose a genre and produce in a sub-genre then please post it after your vote.
If you are not sure what genre your music falls under then please look here for the sub-genre you produce in.

I AM basing this entire poll on this article, so if you feel heavy metal should not be listed under the rock genre then don't bother whining about it. It's just to give me a general idea, and since the poll option only gives us 30 options you and i both know i can't list every known genre for a poll.
I can't speak for the OP, but having seen many of his other posts on KVR, I doubt he intended this poll to be "racist".
To echo the OP's other point, if you don't like the poll, don't respond to it. There's a lot more on KVR to read.
And anyone who's that upset with this poll (which, admittedly, could have been done a bit better) could go to the Wikipedia page noted above, and try to create a KVR poll for the 130-140(!) types of "Electronic" music alone.
Because apparently, if you don't list them all, someone will think you're being "racist".

In my defense I did read the OP...the article he referred to was what I had issue with. Ok well I certainly didn't expect to be compared to a racist because of this thread, i was merely curious what people generally produced here. Looks like Electronic (with all it's smaller categories) is the most popular.
Strange how that works out, but i should have known considering all the people who talk about synthesizers here.

Okay, but this is a list of all styles in existence. It doesn't imply that these groups are of equal size or popular, so it does not make much sense to draw statistics from it (which the poll is). The mere fact that some style exists doesn't mean anybody will be voting for it.
