The bass volume was definitely too low in the first mix, so I increased the volume and decreased the volume of the distorted bass a touch. Also some EQ changes were needed afterwards.
The guitar solo was lowered in volume (I've actually boosted it in the first mix intentionally as I thought it might be a nice change to switch the lead from the synth to the guitar for a moment).
Automation was also adressed to get rid of the confusion around 3:45 (and also on some other parts of the mix).

Thanks for the feedback, M4M!

As requested the SFX was brought down on the intro. Lead synth was also brought down to work better with the guitars. Made guitars and drums brighter and more modern (side note: I initially wanted it to sound darker as the song reminded me a lot of some proggy classics such as ELP lol).

About your "mistakes", I honestly thought they gave the song some "live" character that I like. Either way, I masked some of them with pitch and timing edits. Bend at measure 100 was washed on delay, as asked.

Hope you guys like it!

So I tried to follow the recommandations ^^ I lowered the intro/outro SFX by at least 6dB, I boosted the middle-highs of the guitars while lowering the low-mids to have the mix less focused on the mids. I tilted a bit the side guitars toward the highs to remove some low-mid muddiness. I parallel compressed/saturated the drums by a little bit, very subtle. I removed some low end rumble from the kick. I brought back the bass low-end because I felt I cut too much, then I removed a resonance in the low-mids of the bass and finally controlled the bottom en with a multiband compressor. I cut a little bit mids from all the instruments to make it even a bit less middle focused. I deboxed the instruments and the beat a bit. I automated the pad synth to lower it during the verses. slight volumes adjustments here and there. I evened a bit more the toms sounds to have a more constant roll. Hope I didn't overdo it ^^

Good luck to everybody for round 2 ! ^^

Winner Time

Man that was so hard, every mix has some elements that I really liked and every mix had some issues, but in the end it came to pure enjoyment listening to them yesterday as i hand sanded and relic'ed my strat ( https://imgur.com/gallery/FaBpK ), listening to all 7 mixes on random and putting (really dirty, as in shoe polish and rust all over my hands dirty) notes on a piece of paper (like a part for notes and a part where i would just put a little / every time i was like whoa! that sounds like a ton of brick!, i also did the low monitors, high monitors, mono iphone earbuds and TV beats headphones (the on the balcony sanding was on some old all-in-one system speakers i use outside in the summer, not monitor quality, but not shit, really, average joe all in one system)

mix notes are a bit short, i'll come back to it this week if you want to, i had (and still have, started yesterday night due to abusive rains here) a water infiltration in the roof i need to take care of, so not really had the time to be on the computer today but I wanted to give at least the winners names, i feel i'm pretty late (like 4 days late, sorry)

I'm kinda forced to give an order, but all 3 are actually number 1 for me (they got the same number of "ton of brick" dashes)

#1 - Koliev
#2 - Kevin Gobin
#3 - Davias

feedback for the 3 winners first (as is tradition) and the other with no particular order:

Koliev:

Really open mix, everything is clear and well panned. Fantastic tape stop
Great work on all submitted mix notes, what else to say, you made the song yours and it worked pretty good

Kevin Gobin:

Incredible use of the hi thing it seems I played, best wall of sound among the winners
great application of the mix notes
I really like the roaring guitar 2/3rd in before the sonic youth-esque starts

BTW, that mix was way too hot, if I was a mastering house i'd return it asking for MAX -10dB Peaks, it's louder than my full mastered mix

Davias:

Great artistic choices on the levels of the different and concuring leads, great mix unity
nice application of the notes, intro sound is still too loud and the end drops abruptly

Photonic:

nice guitars, really violent and in your face, big fat pick scrapes and noises, great work with the notes

Thiagoam88:

good guitar sounds, drums less agressive in the end, great vintage sound to the overall mix

Vasdim:

Drums sounds a bit boxy and lacks unity with the rest of the mix, hat too far right, great corrections, sounds way more balanced now

NukeArts:

Wayyyy better now, way more united, tho the whole mix sounds a bit boxy, lacks width

I agree with the level abuse. :hihi:

I also liked Kolyev's mix, nice ambiance and less fatiguing than mine, well deserved.
