Will post examples at the end of the post.

Do you think these highhats are programmed complexly or do you think they get most of their shine from the post processing? I really like the lo fi texture to them. Im having a hard time remaking them though. How would you suggest someone go about it? Im thinking bitcrushed samples. The only problem is I have a feeling the end result relies alot on the post processing so I might be chasing my tail with the amount of time im spending looking for the right samples.

What kind of samples would you reach for and what kind of post processing do you think you can hear?

Obviously the snares and ghost notes play a big part too. Im having a hard time reverse engineering how theyre done since theyre so process (I think) and energetic.

Seems like sample rate reduction.

Not sure if the degredation is deliberate bit-reduction or just youtube compression. Firstly they are open hihats which he seems to favour. Definitely drum machine emulated/sampled. Seems like some dampening has been done to them - but as you say this could very well be in the bus/mix/mastering stage, not on the instrument. Infact even the crash cymbals don't seem to reach really high frequencies... So I am guessing there is a hard clamp (dynamic EQ even) on the high frequencies on the drum bus at least. It's a classic trick to let the vocals reach the highest highs only, so they sit uncluttered, right on top with no masking.

Show us your example of imitating these beats - and we can go from there.
