i used a modified installer.. 64bit Vista i think..
what do you mean by cd-check? is there one that does not need the ISO???
i was staring at the Rebirth folder and the rewire dlls when i saw in c:/Rebirth RB-338/ReWire.reg which points a windows location back to c:/Rebirth RB-338/ReWire.dll where my Rebirth is installed.. So, all i had to do was double click the .reg and allow it to alter my registry - immediately i am able to use C 6.5 and RB 2.0.1 together finally!!

thanks for the info ! i have the modded installer as well ! i just hoped there'd have been a no-cd installation by now ... alas ...
