Here's to hoping. As screens get bigger that rack seems smaller and smaller.cytone wrote:I don't recall them mentioning anywhere the rack having a scalable GUI?Urs wrote:
However, we also have to do 3D files for the final, scalable version. I started on this, but I didn't make it to the final version within a day. We'll see once their final toolset arrives.

This is great to hear!Urs wrote:I'll be happy to post some more details soon. This is *not* another plugin format. It's something different. We are very happy about it.
This less so. I hope at least the crossgrade price is inexpensive.Urs wrote:As for pricing, I don't think we can give it away as a free crossgrade. We'll unbundle Uhbik and we'll work something out. Also for things to follow. We'll see.

Call me when they decide to make the sequencer more usable and less squinty...

I really like the Reason sequencer personally - one of it's best bits imho, very easy to use the tools there, good editing without being too complex... and I love ReGroove (but shame it doesn't work for audio) and the Blocks feature.audiobot202 wrote:Call me when they decide to make the sequencer more usable and less squinty...
Interested to see whether Reason 6.5 will include a few freebie Re devices
Having missed the PWYW upgrade offer, the cost for me to upgrade from the R/R DUO is currently 149 euros, which is steep, but with some Re devices included it would be fine and I would *probably* upgrade.

The Reason 6 GUI didn't work for me, and so I don't feel for the moment that Rack Extension has what is needed to bring me back to it. But I will try it.
Most of CV-like stuff and routing between VSTs and so are possible outside Reason (with in example Sensomusic Easine), and so I don't see what I may miss there. I was also able to use Reason 5 device CV outs to control parameters on VST synths in Cubase through a Reaktor patch back in time, so Reaktor may also be able to do much in a modular aspect.

cytone wrote:I don't particularly buy the Propellerhead's arguments for not implementing VST's. The stability issues are more likely on the host side. For example I've found Renoise extremely stable. In Renoise you can undo VST parameter changes and run them sandboxed. CV out integration is just basically VST parameter automation being routed.
What they really want is a piece of the pie - 30% commission on sales. Everyone is trying to copy Apple now with their App Stores as it's been such a successful business model.
I think the point here is compatible modularity with the current environment which is the huge selling point depending how dev's decide to utilise those features. The simple fact that you'll be able to CV/GATE patch and modulate parameters between devices and from within a Combinator Modulation matrix makes this one powerful tool set for sound design especially when combined with the SSL desk and other fathers in Reason 6. It will literally do things on a patching and sound design level that other hosts can't pull off.
Thor is already stupidly powerful as a CV routing device on it's own within a Combinator so I can only imagine what you'll be able to create with a far more advanced set of tools - for example using Malstroms Shaper A & B outputs to modulate 3rd party reverb parameters, scale CV signals in unique ways via Thor to control other synths, devices and effects and so on and so forth.
This is a HUGE development IMHO and will make Reason quite unique as a truly modular integrated hosting platform.
You can't for example use one VST parameter automation lane to inter modulate something else in another VST and so on and so forth and with the audio splitters, spider cv/gate splitters and mergers and the like you're going to be able to go far beyond the standard signal flow of device A into device B & C in an audio signal chain but have things inter modulate each other in extremely unique ways.
Quite frankly it's a stroke of genius in many ways, as anyone whose used the Combinator in depth can attest too.

Interesting. I'm curious if you could share why exactly that is..? Is it because Zebra, ACE and Diva are too complex? Is it an incompatibility with the parameters Reason would use to automate functions in Zebra, ACE or Diva? It's unfortunate if the limitations will keep devs from porting high quality DSP's...Urs wrote: OTOH we couldn't do Zebra, ACE or even Diva just yet. But we've got a close wire to Props to work out ways to port a few things.

WOW! Just what I was hoping for.
This is GREAT news from props. I'm really looking forward to upgrading to 6.5.
Imagine this: You get the legendary stability of Reason with the power of external synths that are pre-approved for reason.
The Props are onto something big here. I see Reason becoming a major DAW player in the near future.
You can even get the Reason VSTs, Rewire it to your DAW and have the power of reason, stability of Re-plugs, all in the comfort of your own DAW!

Uhbik owners currently looking forward to rebuying the plugs so that they can use them in Reason, which is Rewired to their current DAW so they don't have to use Reason's sequencerkeyman_sam wrote:You can even get the Reason VSTs, Rewire it to your DAW and have the power of reason, stability of Re-plugs, all in the comfort of your own DAW!
It wasn't stable before! Only Reason is stable.

Why would they do that? If they're already rewiring Reason, it seems to me that nothing's changed by the Props announcement.liquid wind wrote:Uhbik owners currently looking forward to rebuying the plugs so that they can use them in Reason, which is Rewired to their current DAW so they don't have to use Reason's sequencer

Well, I'll just have to wait and see, I hope it works out that somehow plugin prices get really competitive and lower in the props environment. I am thinking of how in the Palm OS and Windows Mobile environments before Apple's app store it was hard to find and difficult to install many apps, "plugins" if you will to those device's core functionality, but Apple's app store and now Android's have made that all much easier and so all developers have an easier time marketing their wares. Consequently there is more competition for your dollars and prices are pretty low overall compared to the old days of PALM OS apps being $10-20 normally, some even more. I'm just wondering if we'll see add-driven plugins in the future (you could say the CM and Amazonia.de plugs already do this). I just don't want to see the wide world of VSTs negatively impacted. I wonder if PH will allow free plugins at any point. THAT would definitely make it much more interesting to me. Some sort of plugin that allows you to host any VST would be the first RE plugin I'd work on BTW A riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a shiny GUI...
