indeed. I lied when I said I wrote music, secretly I have these minions to do it all for me. All they ask for is affection and food.

I miss the Amiga days, I remember I used to use Bars and Pipes and also ProTracker 2.3 - I used to love the look of ProTracker witht he blue tracks - what you could do with 4 (8 If you used Octamed) tracks was truly impressive.

Just got my Amiga emulator setup on my PC again, fun times. I remember back in the early 90's at college using an Atari for music notation, using C-Lab Notator / Creator, loved it but hated the Atari.

Hilarious and true! Could anyone have imagined back then that it would get to where it is today?
I thought for sure gol or one of the guys would have lost their minds and murdered by now.

Man, I hear that. Ive been using FL fo'eva.
I kind of well, lie, about what I use pretty often. I have stopped lately, as there is nothing to hide from. But the apps undeserved rep will wear off on you, undeservedly. I lied and when I was talking to the kind of asshat who thinks that shit is important they just ate it right up.

Now I tell the truth, and half the time get the same reaction as mm, but I laugh and ask em what they use, or what they think I should use.
If its not Live, I laugh harder...
Thing is, until around v6 or so, FL did not compete at the top. It didnt deserve the stigma, but I dont think it could quite stack up to the big guys for pro stuff, even pro 'beat making'. Im no pro, but now at v10, its way more often I find myself 'smh' reading about things that are v's old in FL that in other daws are either missing or broken, or just shitty. :hihi:

The deal is DAWS used to be all about recording bands, with Protools as the standard. Some engineers still think there's nothing that can compete.

Then people were making more electronic music which involved little or no recording at all, then you had ableton and so on. Lots of people don't use DAWS like recording engineers do. And other DAWS have long ago caught up with the recording side too give or take.

Aiyn wrote:Well that just gives it away there, probably like most people, myself included the last time they used it it was fruity loops. FL Studio is much more advanced than the old Fruity loops.
Tbf it is quite hard to get into to. If it wasn't nfr i probably would have sold it a couple of versions ago but the past couple of updates have really improved it. :)

When I tell a Reaper user that I don't use Reaper I get the same look. :hihi:

Who cares that you use FL studio? That looks 100x more professional than my DAW. But does it really matter that much?
Not really, unless it prevents you from creating what you want to create.
I use 3 different hosts so it doesn't really matter to me, use whatever you're comfortable with. At the end of the day it's all about creating music and the software is just the medium. YMMV. :)

Yes, I tried FL studio back at v8 (or was it 7...or 6? It was some 4 years ago) - which granted that was before I started really getting into music production so I didn't really know much about what I was doing, all I know is Zircon started playing the minute I got it installed and I thought that was BADASS! In fact, I rendered the demo song down and put it on my portable music player.
Anyways, I couldn't stand the work flow of it, and couldn't figure it out at all.
Recently, I tried the demo again now on whatever the most recent version is...10, right?
And much hasn't changed in my opinion. I'm still too lost when it opens up. So lost I don't have the patients to figure it out. That's fine, from what I can tell it's not going to work for me, which is why I will soon demo Cubase!

I'd use FL before I'd use Live. In fact, I'd use almost anything before I'd use Live, so I honestly find this to be a weird comment.

Agreed, I've never found a single solution that did all things perfectly. I'm down to Cubase, Maschine, and iMaschine, my favorite combination yet.

The snobbery seems to be particularly strong among Pro Tools users. Maybe its their way of making themselves feel better about spending all that money.
