IMO, Ableton 9, last I tried it, was NOT ready for release. Not by a mile. I couldn't even install Livepacks FFS, and these were ALP's that I had from their offerings online. Also, on several occasions plugins just shit the bed.

It's not ready yet, but I'll buy it anyway because I know they will fix it eventually to be ready.

They did add live pack installation a week or two ago, so now you can install packs from sellers/yourself/etc that were made with previous versions

For me my main issues right now are with the browser, and pdc but im not holding out much hope for that. The browser really needs a way to choose files without having to have them indexed, much like the old style where you could just have shortcuts. Right now their indexing is very flaky and since the database based browser is the sole means of getting samples into live it really really sucks since you have to wait for a location to be indexed (which may or may not happen depending on your timing) in order to use any samples in that location. Let alone the hassle for people with multiple samples drives having to have entire hard drives indexed just to access them

That and the having my hand forced to have a week to decide on an upgrade is also fairly insulting as is the measly discount for already having m4l

The main problem for me is session automation recording is still not working 100%. That was my main reason for buying it again so I will not be happy if it's not fixed.

Gross.

But are you really sure they will fix the issues? We are talking about Ableton here...

IMO Live is so good in some respects that the failures and oversights (pdc, no automation curves, etc.) stand out - if it were sh*t in general (and cheap), you could forgive it.

Still, I've yet to use a DAW that didn't surprise me by having some glaring inadequacy (Dear Logic: Panning. You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means...)

But there are automation curves !?
I'm finding the latest beta pretty good to work with, the lagginess seems gone and no bad crashes yet..
I've actually got about 8 projects/songs underway since I started using 9beta and I'm finding it quick and inspiring to work with (coming up from v6 via a very brief time on v8. )

Was referring to Live 8 (I've not used the beta). The automation curves and new clip automation is a worth enough for me to upgrade, so that's saying something!

I'm having all kinds of little problems and I get little to no answers over on that forum. I'd expect the focus to be more important things than "automatic updates"

Any of your issues with automation? Seems a few here.... :?

I'm no expert on automation. Other than PDC issues, I'm not aware of any.

One thing though that is PMO on automation is there is now an "arm" button in 9. Well, I want it OFF by default. But keymappings are not working correctly, so If I futz with something and forget to turn it off, then all kinds of strange automation can get recorded. Grrrrrrrrr!

Oh goodie...that may be one of my issues here then...better check that out...grumble grumble...

It is likely in Ableton's best interest to release Live9 before Bitwig... even if a few issues linger...

there is no bitwig :D

It's so odd. I just got through a LENGTHY session in live (hey, this not posting all the time means serious buzinus :hihi: ) and it just did CHAMPION status. It was like a host on viagra. I dunno. I have some issues but many of them are not 100% reproducible. The only ones that are for me:

-Tab/rename: (a confirmed bug)
-Keymapping for some items not being per project
edit: turns out this is normal, which doesn't make sense. There should at least be an option to have it per project or global.
-session drummer not behaving properly. Not having stuff grouped properly (like the snare having many different channels instead of being subgrouped) and kits either missing or hard to find :?
-the "every once in a while CPU spike" which I can't seem to pin down :x
-the indexing thing (I thought they were going to fix this  ) but that isn't as bad here as it is for some.
-AND OBVIOUSLY...........PDC automation annoyances.

It's crashed a grand total of 3 times since I did that beta (I think that's pretty good, considering I use it quite a bit) and it's "mostly" "ok"

But like I echoed before, push is a non-factor these days. If the damn software is going to be released with issues, then I'm not shelling for hardware that may/may not work proper!

Still, it's WAY better than sonar for example
