Is there a method to using REAPER with patterns?

REAPER is a linear based sequencer.. create a track/lane, record midi notes further and further to the right.. I get that.
However, with the inclusion of new MIDIness lately, has anyone devised a method of getting some form of pattern based song creation in REAPER? I'm pretty sure this is a 'no' and maybe even a 'never going to happen.'
But I have to ask just in case!

Latest work on MIDI has absolutely no relation to patterns. PiPs do, but that's still in heavy alpha.

some pattern based workflow would be insanely awesome. for me it would be nice for sketching out "ideas" wish they had something like a enhance blocks feature like in reason or clips (including audio) like live..

Exactly! It is good for sketching.. getting a basic framework for a track on the arranger. Super quick.
Thank for the information on the Project in Project (PiP) feature. That will be useful once it's developed and released. Probably a version 5 feature you think?

I was thinking it would be interesting to have chunks divided from the arranger a couple hours over (so not used anyways) and mapped to certain patterns. Then, have another window that lists each of these divided sections (patterns) which would be drag and droppable onto the arranger.

May not be useful to you but I always found this tutorial interesting:

Using loops in Reaper using Takes and Items to select the current playing loop etc.

I've been using Reaper like that, though with nowhere near the number of tracks as in the SOS article.GaryG wrote:May not be useful to you but I always found this tutorial interesting:

Do you guys use regions? Seems like the blocks concept in reason. Works great to rearrange song layouts and essentially turn sections of songs into patterns.

Get the SWS extensions and try Region Playlist. Use it in combination with Region Manager for best results.

I tried using them once, at least at that point it wasn't really like Blocks in that it didn't harness what's really great about Blocks. I love Reaper but not for anything pattern oriented.aroundtown wrote:Do you guys use regions? Seems like the blocks concept in reason. I really like the idea of Sower and MPL power rack but last I remember he shelved it because of some something he described as fatal inefficient coding. Did he bring it back to life?
