Yes it is fully customisable. You can choose 'on' or 'off'.

^hehe. Yeah, it seems less convenient to have the browser on the other side when you're dragging samples into a drum machine or something like that, but I imagine that you will be using the commands in the inspector more than the browser so it makes sense to me that they would be where they are. The only other option I can think of is to have them on the same side and I dunno if it really needs to be like that.

As far as all the other panes in the middle I don't see why you would need to move them around. I mean you choose your "main" pane (arrange, mix, or edit), and then you can choose to have whatever else you want to see pop up on the bottom, so what is there to move around really? I just don't see that you stand to gain much at all by being able to move stuff around.

Not really...

By customizable I mean be able to move and position/dock and undock all the panels, and put them wherever I want on the screen...

If this is possible then it's fully customizable.

Don't forget that a mini browser pops up in place when you add a device.

Do you think it'll stop you from making music if the browser is on the right hand side!?

Seriously what does it matter. As long as you can tuck it away to expand the view when it's not needed then it'll be fine.

That's just a menu for browsing devices I believe, it won't help with samples.

Sorry, that was supposed to be a joke. You can drag the browser wider, so its left edge goes right over to the other side almost. But you can't undock it. You can Launch Bitwig Studio with up to 3 windows so you could keep one open with the browser in. Why don't you like it on the right?

Yeah the distance to drag is slightly longer in some cases. Not a lot you can do about that, in other cases it would be the other way round. You can get clips and samples right next to each other. The only time it's a long drag is to the Sampler or Drum Machine. I use a one finger locked trackpad drag which is very easy, and also I use a KeyRemap mouse Keys drag which is very easy but a bit slower until you practice. I would rather cut my arm off than do traditional drags holding a mouse down all the way.
Ideally I'd like to see a hotswap but at the moment I don't know if that's in the pipeline or not.

I'm on bootcamp right now, there are a couple things holding me in Win that I'd liked to get cleared up and move to osx. But what is finger locking and "KeyRemap?" Apps? I have no track pad.

Edit. I looked up drag lock. Still just not sure what keyremap is doing.

One finger drag is a Mac trackpad option. It is a drag with one finger. You can also choose to lock it, which means you can take your finger off mid drag. If it takes several movements to do a long drag, that helps a lot. For Mavericks the option for one finger drag has been moved, to Accessibility Preferences/Mouse and Trackpad/Trackpad Options/ tick 'enable drag with drag lock'. Two taps, holding on the second one, starts a one finger drag. when you get the item (sample) to your destination (clip or whatever) you do a tap to release the drag.

KeyrRemap is a third party app, but it is free and is amazing. PCs and Macs have mouse keys, which enables you to move the cursor with the keyboard, but the mouse keys on KeyRemap are much better. For example I can start a locked drag by pressing N, and then use H to move the sample leftward, and let's say J to move it down a bit. I press N again to release.

I love KeyRemap for other things though. For example I've written a script which means I can use the arrow keys to scroll vertically and horizontally in Live or Bitwig Studio. I made my right CMD key change to a middle click with it, which is useful in the Bitwig Arranger so I can do the simultaneous zooming and scrolling anywhere with one finger. That was a preset, so all I had to do was tick a box. My enter key is a control key when pressed at the same time as another key. Stuff like that.

I did a tutorial for KeyRemap over on MacAbleton, and the scrolling script is there too.
