Ok, I'll believe you. Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, that's just like the Operator and Analog presets they let you play with but not edit. It's not the same as having the multisampler or the synth. If anything I see it as a sales tool to get you to want the real thing. I assume you can only load Ableton multisample presets.Guenon wrote:Actually it does, one just can't edit them with it ... If you load a multisample into it (for example, edit a multisample in Sampler and then switch Sampler -> Simpler), it says "Multisample Mode" in Simpler's waveform field and it functions, just not zone editable etc.kennyda wrote:Simpler doesn't do multisamples.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I was like 95% sure I remembered a grand piano that came on simpler with at least two velocity levels. But yeah, if you can't edit it, in some cases it's like it isn't even there. I just thought I hadn't figured out how to open the edit screen.

Yea it does. Mentioned in manual. They doesn't allow user to edit it.Guenon wrote:Actually it does, one just can't edit them with it ... Yeah, I just posted about that, see two posts up from yours. I did forget about that, but I don't thing it really counts anyway, because you can only use the presets that come with Live. It annoys me actually, all this limited functionality, second class status. That's something that's impressed me about Bitwig is that it's just one version.

The real kick is the modular system !
I can imagine how many cool things will appear.
So I expect to see a Bitwig-Modular community coming and growing
similar to the Reaktor-Community.
So many great people did so amazing instruments and effects for Reaktor,
and I expect nothing less to happen with Bitwig-Modular.
The advantage that it is natively modular
and not a foreign code that had to be adapted,
is a hint for the stability it will have.
I hope they come to their senses and open modular at a nearer 1.5 version,
if they really want to get a good stand on the DAW market.
The modular system is the main thing that sets Bitwig apart from other DAW's.
It's the biggest advantage they have !
The sooner it will be available the better.
Waiting another two years is lost ground !

Given that Bitwig modular will have the necessary low-level features. Max4Live and Reaktor are really low level beast ( gen~ and Core technologies ).

We will all be able to test in less than two months. After all this time I must say I'm still going to. Has anyone who decided against it still going to be tempted to give it a thorough thrashing test upon release?

I was always planning to give it a go!
Would have been nice to have been a beta tester

The whole Bitwig Studio is built from ground up the modular way.lalo wrote:Given that Bitwig modular will have the necessary low-level features. Max4Live and Reaktor are really low level beast ( gen~ and Core technologies ).
So why shouldn't it bee even deeper as the others ?
It was mentioned many times that Bitwig will open it completely.
Imagine what people will make from the sampler and synthesizer.
Even create much more complex ones...
How many creativity will rise upon effects, sequencers and modulators.
I see this as the strongest side in Bitwig Studio...
...but waiting another 2 years to open that feature is not smart !

Well, this isn't about it being "smart" or not.simpli.cissimus wrote:The whole Bitwig Studio is built from ground up the modular way.lalo wrote:Given that Bitwig modular will have the necessary low-level features. Max4Live and Reaktor are really low level beast ( gen~ and Core technologies ).

I asked the same question at the BW christmas party and the reason for it is, that what works for internal development and people who know exactly about what works and what not and how it works is a totally different thing than developing it's GUI and inner workings in a way that the average musician can use it safely and easily.
Here on KVR the discussions are often totally detached from reality.
It's not that somebody decides "hey, we will release this later since we feel like it, just let it sit for another 2 years" but that it's a frigging lot of work to get it to such a usable point with all the stuff you would want it to have.
There will also be a SDK so you can create your own modules from scratch (as much as I love node based systems, I think certain low level things make much more sense to do in code) - this also needs a lot of time to develop to a point where you can release it to outside people without them going mad.
To me the roadmap makes sense. And you already get the modular workings, even if in the background and not directly accessible. But a lot of how the modulation system works is already very "modular".
Cheers,
Tom

I have been speculating to my self how long the modular system will take to be released. The fact that its already under the hood is encouraging. Also despite the "long wait" BW was developed in about the time it took for Live to go from 8 to 9 and add 64bit which is pretty impressive.
I'm hoping to see roughly yearly updates with the modular system between 2015 and Q1 2016.
*crosses fingers*
