I haven't seen it in the net but I have all the others and nothing is as good as Fish will be.
What is Fish, and where can I find info about it? Thanks.

I'm running the Fish BETA and it's pretty decent. I love the auto-scaling feature! :hyper:

I use a mix of DAWs, depending on the genre I'm working in.

- Acid Music Studio 10: loop mangling excellence. Decent audio recording. I ended up replacing my Acid Pro 7 with this! It's my go-to DAW.

-Cakewalk Music Creator 6 Touch : for pattern-based beat sequencing stuff. The Matrix sequencer is wonderful! Sucks for audio recording, always crashes, so it only comes out for dance-type tunes.

- Tracktion 4: used it a lot when I was a guitar player, but for loop-based stuff it's worthless as it stops the main transport when you audition a loop. Shelved indefinitely.

I hate to say what everyone else has, but honestly get 2 good recommendations, download the demos, and try. Spending money on something audio unheard typically results in buyers remorse.

I tried the Studio 1 demo, liked it, but I don't need all it offers to make ambient/soundscape/cinematic music.

I'm not jumping to conclusions on this purchase even if it is not within the financial range of some.

@Lily I read ya.

About my method for selecting a DAW. First I find out what others have to say. If they have a lot of experience with the program they may find faults or benefits of use to which I would not have prior knowledge of and most likely not keyed into. Like many contributors to this thread who have provided detailed arguements.
Having the information is much more useful to me then trying each program on the market out for myself. I don't want to be in download/testing hell.

I'd also Like to Give a shout out to ...Brother Charles who did a very indepth 5 part walkthru of the features of Mixcraft 6

Now I want you guys to ponder this as you watch this or any other video on youtube.
Youtube uses Sorenson codecs for video (and audio) compression. It can squeeze the lifeblood of an audio signal. If you can here the difference a subtle effect has on a youtube video it is significant that the process (like slight tape sim) survives the upload.

My review of the Mixcraft review.
I'm not interested in included loops so scratch that.
I'm not interested in sound libraries. Although some of the included sample based sounds I found on par with SampleTank (which I already own) The included synths have much to be desired. I like VB3 and to be honest the included version isn't vb3 or even it's predecessor Organized Trio. (that's fine I already have them)

The tape sims lacked saturartion at lower levels and wasn't properly demo'd at the break up point because Brother Charles jumped to the full up position. It's no uad, and it's not even close to the tape sim in Samplitute. It does address only part of the smoothing compression and warmth of analog tape.

The demo of the noise gate was hardly real life. Track bleeding is often more severe. The noise gate worked rather well in cleaning up the noise floor while preserving the character of the vocals.

^^^This^^^^ is how one does a product review. I'll get into later details on my findings from the review posted by Brother Charles.

I'm not that impressed with the version of ozone installed. Some reverbs are fine others are horrendus (specifically cathedral) Some of the other effects require more scrutiny. The emulation of pultec type eq is actually quite favorable more as a tube emulated mutiband conpression with a nice saturation on top.

Wow! Thanks for the very kind remarks, TrapperMike. It's kinda kool, for me, to browse the forums and see comments like this.

It was the best independent review of a daw I've ever seen. You took great care to go through all the attributes. I was especially impressed (though I have yet to mention it) with your detailed explanation of the effect automation function in Part One of your review.

I most certainly cannot hold myself to those standards

I can just tell you what I've used and if it actually works or not. Past that, I got nothing....

Geez, I love these DAW trolling topics. All you need to do is to post a poll, ask people to recommend a DAW for you, and pretend you haven't already been using one for the past 20 years.

Freakin' Amazing!

Post

I used reaper for the trial (already stated that) I haven't used S1 (already stated that) I haven't used Mixcraft(already stated that) and on the original post I had specified that I had been dissatisfied with my current daw as well later on I was very specific about the daw's I have had experience with.

I am no troll and I don't owe you my life's story. Many of those who have already contributed know me rather well here.

It just too hard to download those demos...it's just so much better when you can get thousands of subjective opinions! :dog:

I'd love to know why today is national mean people day. It's not just here either.
