Hm... I read some slight enhancements in terms of handling with the new GUI (TrackVersions, some new buttons), more control over the HUB (finally, even though mine is turned off), some slight changes for the Control Room (Monitor Presets per project, not global).
Hm... they also took another look at the ASIO Guard (dropout fixes), rare VariAudio Problems, some MixConsole enhancements (that sadly won't see a fix in 7.0) - generally more focus on the MixConsole and new features. Which is a good thing, even though a late attempt.
But sadly, I don't see more about VST3 compatibility and the ASIO engine.
Still, 7.5.20 might be worth a closer look.
Actually, something in 7.5.10 caught my eye:
"R9921:
Performance peaks with certain plug-ins under Windows Using CPU intensive plug-ins (for example, VST Connect SE) may cause ASIO peaks if the Windows power scheme is set to “balanced” and ASIO-Guard is enabled.
To avoid these peaks, please make sure to enable the “Steinberg Audio Power Scheme” under Devices >
Devices setup > VST.
For more information, refer to:
...nowledgebase_new/show_details/kb_show/optimizing-windows-for-daws.html "
The only concern I have... and I tried that feature a couple of times by now (by power scheme is on "full" btw)... it didn't make a difference in terms of ASIO spikes, and general ASIO load. Maybe this got a silent enhancement with .20 (which again, sadly is not part of 7.0.x)
All in all, I still have the impression that Cubase these days is laid out for CPU's post the Sandy Bridge generation. And funny enough, it does perform better in x64 most of the time as well.
The question some people might have now:
Will we see at least 2-3 more maintenance updates now, or is the update cycle pretty much over?
(if the 2-month cycle is kept up, June might be the next update, around September might be the last, and October could be the release of C8 already - just a wild guess here)

mmm, installed update on win 7 and each time I hit F3 the track lanes get ever wider until it looks sorta fisher-price and there it stays. Not nice on a touch screen as you can't get into the swing of things as the tracks are never in the same position. When I add more tracks they move again. Is it a feature perhaps? I seem to remember others already reported this issue in v7. Maybe there is secret research showing how the constant shifting and resizing glitches keep the musical mind alive. Maybe the majority of users feel that the wider their tracks get displayed, the better they sound I must be missing something, surely programmers are clever people and know quite precisely what they are doing? I program and I can assure you it is pretty difficult to code if you don't know exactly what you are after. In which case I can only conclude they are playing a delaying game. There is no other reason for the panoply of annoyances which seem targeted at breaking up the workflow at the same speed they smooth it and mitigating the moans.

F3 on my rigs brings the mixer up. Wonder if it's a touchscreen/windows setting issue (jsut guessing so dont shoot me, please). However Im on Win8.1 fwiwpetersmizzx wrote:mmm, installed update on win 7 and each time I hit F3 the track lanes get ever wider until it looks sorta fisher-price and there it stays. It's definitely not a feature. You should be able to resize mix channels without them defaulting to the widest setting every time you toggle between mixconsole and project window. To me, personally, it's a major annoyance, so it simply makes Cubase unusable(for me), even though it doesn't effect overall performance. I haven't downloaded 7.5.20 yet, but will do so later on today and if nothing is changed, I'll just continue using Studio One exclusively.petersmizzx wrote:mmm, installed update on win 7 and each time I hit F3 the track lanes get ever wider until it looks sorta fisher-price and there it stays. As I've mentioned on other threads, it's sucks that, in my case, updating from 7 to 7.5 took care of the CPU Spikes issue, but introduced this new silly visual glitch which wasn't there in C7. At least not for me, and I'm running both versions on the same system.

I feel more safe knowing that $teinberg is not in the medical equipment software market.
Jokes aside this $ craziness, rushing broken updates, halving release cycles etc from most of the big software companies (including Microsoft) is very sad. It may bring them extra $ but severely harms the product (and our peace of mind)...... You had Win XP and your DAW and you could spend years without worrying about all these burdens they keep throwing in your way nowdays...
Now, where is that Cubase VST 5.1 box?

Stored in the top section of my bookshelf, ride beside my SX3 copy (which I prefer over VST5.2r1 actually)ZINO wrote:Now, where is that Cubase VST 5.1 box?

5.2r1? The public beta you mean right?
SX3 eh... Remember this never delivered latest patch?
OMG... This company is a series of undelivered promises and we keep buying.

Both VST 5.2r1 (yes, the public beta) and SX3 worked for me. Better than C7 at least. And I was more of a heavy hardware user back in that day.
