I played around with PAN automation in Reaper and it was not working.
Then I noticed there are two modes: PAN and PAN PRE FX.
So I switched from pan pre fx to pan and then it was working.
So: what is the difference between both modes and why is pan pre fx not working as expected?

If the PAN PRE FX - is what is sounds to be - actually panning audio from track before entering FX chain - then it could be that loaded effects are to blaim.
And are the effects stereo versions to start with?
No much happening in an effect if mono?
And Reaper route one audio channel to both left and right - if clip is mono?
And if effects are stereo - how is that maintained when audio is panned on input?
If modulation effect you might not notice so much of stereo being panned.

The synth is an "FX" in Reaper, too. PreFX pan will only work for any audio that exists before ANYTHING in the FX list, e.g. audio files on this track or audio received from other tracks (sends or child tracks).
