I just need one to run 64 bit vsts in and master tracks, simple is good, I don't need a lot of features, but I do want a dedicated app to master with. I don't want to do it within my DAW.

Any help?

I been using Sound Forge buy mine is 32 bit only and I don't want to pay that huge upgrade fee.

I have downloaded 3 other ones and none of them supported 64 bit plugins. I was coming here to check this thread while downloading this exact thing :)

If anyone has any cheaper recommendations I would really appreciate it.

Audacity or OcenAudio?

When you mention mastering, do you mean mastering by ear or mastering with lots of fancy analyzers and displays? Because for decent versions of those, you'll probably have to use either a plugin suite like Ozone or fork out cash for an audio editor that has them on board.

Adobe Audition is my favourite - it is only subscription, but depending on how often you need it and how your workflows go it may be worth it on an as needed per month basis

I do it all by ear, I just downloaded Audacity but I didn't see anywhere I could add VSTs.

Thanks for the reply, I really can't afford it, it is $20 a month with a yearly or $30 a month without year.

For all I know, it's completely free to use. There is a donation button on the website, but seems like it's more of an optional thing. Just use it for a while, and if you find it suits your needs then send them a couple of bucks. :)

EDIT: yup, opening 24-bit WAV file works fine here (on Mac).

Thanks, I can't figure out how to change to what I want to save. Like i can save mp3/wav but don't see where to pick what sample rate, etc. I went to the help button but seems there is no manual. Really cool program though, I love things like this that aren't so convoluted.

just found something else, it doesn't seem to be able to open/read the waveshell for the waves plugins.

If you're on Windows, then maybe Wavosaur? Looks a bit old fashioned, but it's free and can do 64 bits and VST and comes with some metering functionality. I don't know how it plays with Waves shell tho.

Use the export function (File -> Export). This way you can set your format, sample rate, etc.

I have really fond memories of GoldWave, even though it looked determinedly Win95. Surprisingly powerful and easy to use, and had one of the best noise reduction bits available at the time.

Incredibly inexpensive at $15/yr or $45 Lifetime.

VST use is in beta, but it looks like they're in a development spurt, so might be worth considering. Heck, I might buy a license just to fool around with it... :)
