Our female choir has about 20 members with a keyboard. We are looking for some mics to use during performance and to record with. The church is large with a lot of acoustics. We looked at a used pair of
Beyerdynamic MC930 Small Diaphragm True Condenser Cardioid Microphone - Stereo Set. Wondering if anyone has any input on these now.

Occasionally we add a couple violins, a cello and a flute to accompany us.

Room is about 30 ft high 60 ft long 30 ft wide.
2 Samson Auro Active Loudspeakers on stands about 8 feet in front and 5 feet to the sides of the choir.
Samson MDR1064 Pro Mixer
We currently have 6 CO2 condenser mics, but only use 4 at a time. 2 choir 2 instruments
We have a Tascam interface and finally a Macbook Pro computer to record to.
The first row of listeners are about 5 feet from the speakers.

The problem we are having is with the recording. There seems to be a lot of noise coming from the mics and it just doesn't sound very professional. We have tried hanging the mics from the ceiling and placing them on stands above the choir.

What about 20 mics?
I am not the best at mic recording-
but perhaps if you put the mics close to the choir's lips-
your problem will be solved.
Now- you will lose the ambience of the space though.
You could record another track with hanging or mics placed further away too.
This track could be de-noised and used as a sort of reverb?

The cheap quality mic is the Shure SM-57,
I can also recommend Sennheiser e835.
To do the ambience I reckon a powered mic like a Rhode NT3.

Another option is to use a reverb effect instead of your hall's one.

might god go wit ya!
..and best hopes on nice recordings
