most popular DAWs uses freeze/unfreeze to render a MIDI/Audio rack to audio file to reduce CPU peak power for realtime effect calculation.

on MuLab we can use Audio recording to create a audio file from a MIDI/Audio rack audio output, but the practical disadvantage is a additional Rack for mixer control of this recorded audio output file.

freeze renders a MIDI/Audio rack audio output to audio file and keep the original MIDI/Audio rack data inactive for unfreeze on the same rack.

simplified is freezing/unfreezing a switching between original MIDI/Audio rack and rendered MIDI/Audio rack audio output data on the same rack.
