I dont know how to record an midi event in mulab. Which track and rack is able to record a midi sequence from a external source. Midi devices are shown in target moduls but i dont have any singal in a rack and no midi input option. I tried several target moduls but nothing worked. I want to record from the ipad in mulab. Hope you can help me.

First, click the "MuLab" menu and pick "MIDI Setup". The popup shows all your enabled MIDI Input and Output ports. Make sure it is correct and you can see the Input port from which your MIDI Input will be coming into MuLab.

Next, at the top of the composer, right-click (as always is a good idea) the record button (between "Time" and "Tempo") and pick "Setup Event Recording" (MIDI events are referred to as "events" once inside MuLab - MIDI is just how they arrive).

You should get a popup window. The "Record Events" option should be enabled (lit = red = on = enabled, dim = white = off = disabled).

Now you will want to be able to hear yourself playing - you will need to add a Rack with the appropriate sound source.

Then you can click the record button to record MIDI. The first take will automatically get a new track. Subsequent overlapping takes will prompt for what you want to do.

Thanks for the reply.
In MIDI Setup all the in and out sources are correctly shown. Red light is on for "Records Events".
I dont have a signal and i dont have midi devices in a rack.
In the track my midi sources are shown but i think as ouputs. In the modular area all midi sources are event outputs, but I need a event input to record, right?
I tried with red clicks and replace everywhere but nothing worked.

MuLab has always been able to record MIDI from a MIDI Input port. If you can get the MIDI messages you want to record to arrive at a MIDI Input port you will be able to record them.

that isn't very helpful. i assume it still needs a workaround with virtual midi ports

Yes, that has not changed but that's not what you asked. I answered your question. Why was that unhelpful?

Could you give an example from start to end in modular form?
In my case no appropriate rack is shown, it should be the chosen midi input source, right? Thanks

MIDI recording is explained on this doc page: http://www.mutools.com/info/docs/mulab/recording.html

In short: Just click the record button and record what you play. It's as simple as that. No modular level needed.
