The lack of voice lead instructions, unfortunately MUTool technology will remain a well kept secret. Solution (in an environment which has just one person doing all the work)- Encourage the MUTool community to create short video segments (under 3 minute) to assist on: routings, recording suggestions, integration with other hardware and software products and collaborating with others who use other DAW products.

Solution A: Depend on the community to volunteer to create instruction videos
Solution B: Raise money by asking the community to fund-raise to provide a Video of the Month award. Award the winner $$ for producing a video based upon a criteria set by the rules.
Solution C: Setup a Patron account so that funds could be raised. The Patron account could go to MUTools so that prizes or funds could be distributed by MUTools rather than going to an individual instructor.

I am up for a $25.00 initial contribution for this cause. Why am I wanting to contribute? MUTools, when compared to others, is a great contribution in the way it looks, sounds and allows you to custom model synths.

I am building an in-my-home studio and have always researched things first, before the purchase. MUTools is on the front burner, however I do not know how to achieve tasks and this is taking up too much of my time. Secondly, I am purchasing a surface controller and most come packaged with the lite version of what competes with MUTools and may I add, has a generous collection of voice over instructional videos in English. A well made video is also a selling tool.

I totally agree with you. Reaper does this in a great way, with the thirty or so instructional movies, one per subject. I would love to do it myself but am not skilled enough in MuLab or MUX. I also agree this should be a community thing, that someone does this who is not the developer (Jo). I use MuLab at our university but I think we would need movies to make a bigger investment.

Movies would be great and also bring in more users. It's just that someone needs to do them.

I find Mulab to be fantastic and would like to contribute.
I have recently started doing this for another project that needed some "how to" videos as well. I am still kinda a noobie at it but getting better. I can share the links to what has been done .
I am certainly open to critiques as I am truly trying to help the community. What would you like to see in the first 5 topics?

Great! Here are some of the themes I come to think of (in order):

1 Intro to MuLab and why a modular DAW is the way to go.
2 The main window
3 Adding tracks, VSTis etc
4 The piano roll window
5-6 Working with audio
7 The modular view window
8 MuDrum
9 The two samplers
10 Synths
11 FX
12 Solving every day mixing tasks (like sidechain compression)
13 Using MuLab live

Then there could of course be MUX videos too, perhaps two to start with.

I'm sure I forgot some things but if there were new videos for the above, then... yummy! One could easily learn A LOT about MuLab in say 60-90 minutes.

The topics you chose should be a great start.

Here is a link to a video I did recently. I am not yet Kenny or some of the other guys that have done such a great job with Reaper, but thats where I aspire to.

Il put one together for Mulab within a week or so. I have multiple irons burning but I will committ.

Trying out Mux as a synth brought me to Mulab.

I really like the fast midi work flow.
The easy to use piano roll
When you click on a track it automatically engages your midi controller.
A focused feature set
The modular routing.
But probably the coolest thing for me is Muclips. Storing instrument and effect settings with the midi also. It loads insanely fast. really great way to organize partial ideas.

I am still getting a grip on its possibilities but it complementss Reaper very well.

If you should take on this task, I would then commit to MUTools. This decision I've made only after watching your well produced instruction video. An instructor-led video is not enough, the value is have a good instructor that understands how to teach and implements good lighting, mic levels - which you utilize.

My contribution to you for this benefit, is to create a web site for you, using WordPress - absolutely free. I will show you how to add content and stylizing your pages. I will show you how to add Youtube videos to your site while the visitor needs not to leave your page to view the video.

I think that all work needs to be rewarded with some kind of gratitude. The magic is, to give back.

A series of videos for hardware integration pass the midi and audio setup would be of interest. This would deal with creatively using both the hardware and MUTools that complement each other.

I totally agree with you on the workflow. That's my number one reason for using MuLab.

Also, the more I learn about the modular aspects, the more constraining all other DAWs feel.

You mean like a workstation with a few tracks synced upto Mulab, both running at the same time and output to a stereo amp and a pair of speakers.

Yes, or just headphones. Scenarios like you've described and more. For instance, members would post how they were able to hookup a Casio CZ-5000 (a Casio synth) and extend and complementing its use by integrating it with a MUTools module.

Just took the time to watch your video and it is really very good, exactly what I think is needed. Only wish you had done your series a few years back!

A few thoughts:
1. You'll need an intro to every video to creaye an identity and to keep things consistent (but make it short, just a few seconds, and not annoying or overly synthy, housy etc).
2. Don't start from the top. It will take a few videos until you feel quite at home and the intro will be the most important one. Why not start with MuClips?
3. Make each video shorter than five minutes. That way you can create more videos instead of putting all Info in just a few ones. Also, longer than five will make people not view them at all.
4. In case you're not a true expert on this software, do a test drive for each finished video and ask if there is anything more to add. In my experience, in MuLab there always is.

I agree with you SM on creating short segments, however a good tutorial is food for those who need this information and being over 5 min is not boring.

1) As you stated, long intros for branding is annoying expecially when the audio is much louder than the content

2) Providing time counter in the comments for the various topics are a benefit

3) Using a lapel mic is needed if you are moving around

4) Be mindful of close ups which need to be focused

5) Try answering question when posted

6) When posting another video, be aware to match the audio levels so that all videos have similar audio volume levels

7) These videos do not have to be professional, be relaxed and stay on topic

8 - Use a camera stand and avoid hand holding the camera when possible
