By changing the color to something between aqua and cyan, I was able to make it more readable than the red, but with the small font it's still a stretch. This part of the GUI needs attention, esp with today's high-resolution screens. On the other hand, it's a lot simpler than Kontakt, and that's not a bad thing to me.
As long as its capabilities (and complexity) lag well behind Kontakt, it will be a niche player, and it won't get the kind of third-party love that Kontakt gets. This is in spite of the wide engine distribution through various group buys etc.
Sfz compatibility would significantly open up the opportunities for third-party content, as the sfz format is starting to attract support from a growing number of VSTI, and like ST2, sfz is right now mostly implemented for RAM-based instruments. In addition, some sample designers are finding that the same wav files can be used for both Kontakt and SFZ and so are considering supporting both where it's reasonable.
So, two areas where ST3 could improve (ignoring significant complexity changes)
- The GUI, as noted above.
- Import support without having to resort to a third-party tool, and (ideally - but unlikely) better support for export tools too.

A smoother way to search/order multis would help as well. (I like Kore player in this regard.)
Sampletank is incredibly useful, but auditioning sounds is positively painful.
2) Arpeggiator.
3) Keyboard shortcut for next/previous instrument (if not multis as well).
