Hi

First of all: Great instrument!

How about this one: http://www.freenotes.net/Instruments/Ba ... undo.html# (http://www.freenotes.net/Instruments/BassoProfundo.html#) - I really like the depth of that thing :-)

Just got mine. :)

Wow, that's a scary one!

Got mine, and it's already in a track. This one shattered my current no-buy policy...

Two quick questions:

What's the specific reason why you chose to do this with the full Kontakt as opposed to the free one (forgive me if this is a stupid question). I had assumed you weren't going to make anything else for the full player since the free version has some extra security features.

And why only 3 velocity layers? Does this instrument have a limited velocity range? I would assume it has a lot due to the fact that it's struck with a mallet.

The kplayer license fee is quite high, and as it's a smaller product, so we decided to try a normal kontakt library for this one.
also, we're aware that some of our users can't run Kontakt 4 on older macs, so we knew they'd appreciate a standard library in 3.5 format as well as 4 for a change.

the instrument doesn't have a huge dynamic range, and we wanted to keep the size fairly manageable. in this case we felt that more robins would give a more natural sound than velocity detail.

Fair enough.

we'll be back to Kplayer development soon though.

I'm glad you chose to keep it managable. It sounds great. I love your Array Mbira but damn it brings my PC to its knees!!

actually, you'll probably find there's a few simple steps you can take that will massively improve performance.

we have everything on the instruments set to maximum by default, but you can easily reduce polyphony etc without any noticeable drop in quality.

the steps i'd recommend are, in this order :

1. bypass reverb section - kontakt's convolution reverb is a massive cpu drain, but it does sound good. longer reverbs will use more cpu. bypass it entirely and you'll see the cpu meter drop off sharply. then just use a more economic reverb in your DAW.

2. reduce polyphony in the main instrument window - you could reduce it to 32 without noticing note-stealing, IMO

3. reduce release time - if the above two measures don't do enough, reduce the amp release time too, so that the tails aren't quite so long. this will also save polyphony.

thanks for the tips James. I'll certainly try those out.
