I have my plugin at the beta stage, and things should be good for the deadline.

My plugin will be free forever, no limitations, no nag screen, no reminders/prompt, etc. That being said, I also want to release a larger and fuller-featured paid version. What are your opinions of this? It isn't violating any of the rules that I can tell, but I know that often there is a hidden code of conduct with these competitions.

My opinion is there's nothing wrong with any of that. As long as the developer challenge entry works. I wouldn't be offended in a fuller featured payware, not even of just an update of the free version(it's your choice to do as you will).

There was an entry in the 1st DC where it was basically a demo, a host, from the RaxNTrax guy, that was odd. You could load but not record.

Well you could get paid if you have a flattr button on your site, and a link leading to it from your plugin. For instance on my plugin I have "JoBro Media" being a link to my site. At the bottom of that site there is a flattr button.
Best regards from Johan Brodd.
