Chocolate Weasel (AKA T Power) made tracks in 5/4 to make them deliberatly difficult to fit in a mix

A very "smart" move, nobody heard from them again

Is that 9/12 then? Every third 4/4 bar will conjure with the triplets.fese wrote:Btw, isn't "Boten Anna" a classic 4/4 with just the synth hook in triplets??

I remember sometime -99 I heard this Amon Tobin track which inspired me a lot at the time. Still a great track.

better flow in 3's, 5's and 7's. once you use them, everything else seems so, erm...straightEW95 wrote:venetian snares loves his quintuple and septuple meters for some reason

Has the thread title had the word electronica in it all along? If so, I didn't notice that and the OP...
Anyway, here's the Camel track I mentioned

Personally, I tend to prefer longer meters like 10/8 (2+2+3+3) or 13/8 (2+2+3+3+3)
...wasn't at all clear. Is that any genre as long as it isn't electronica, or that it should only be electronic(a) sub-genres? So maybe I was wasting my words talking 'bout prog...Monib wrote:Genre doesn't matter, other the Electronica

Having subjected myself to that , as fese said, it sounds to be 4/4 with a triplet for each beat, so 12 triplets over the four-to-the-floor. Or you could sort of think of it as 12/8, with each beat being a dotted crotchet (three quavers).Numanoid wrote:Is that 9/12 then? Exactly. I love the push and pull you get from the mixture of duplets and triplets in 'odd' time signatures. Hell, 4/4 can be vaguely interesting if you group the quavers as 3+3+2.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:better flow in 3's, 5's and 7's. once you use them, everything else seems so, erm...straight

And it is as it is and we take as we find / Always next season's buds on the bough / But I'll never find a better time / Hard though it is to allow / I'll never find a better time / To be alive than now

Haha, sorry, thanks for the suggestions though. I definetly listen to some Prog Rock and I'll check it out.

Such a lovely song.Sendy wrote:BTW, when you mention Orbus Terrarum, there's a track, I think it's Oxbow Lakes, with the piano. I believe the phrases in that track don't even have predictable barlines. You have phrases of 3, 4, 5, 6 beats strung together. There might be a longform repeating pattern, but if there is, it's not immediately discernable.
Electronic music with a regular tempo but without regular barlines is extremely rare, but interesting to me.

Yes. I wanted to post it from Youtube, it used to be up on there, but it seems to have been taken down. In a way, kinda sad, but in a way, I'm kinda happy, because sharing stuff for free can make it worthless. I have the CD and it's one of my all time faves.cytospur wrote:Such a lovely song.Sendy wrote:BTW, when you mention Orbus Terrarum, there's a track, I think it's Oxbow Lakes, with the piano. Ok, I counted the phrase lengths in Oxbow Lakes, and I got:
4, 4, 4, 5
4, 4, 3, 4
4, 5, 4, 3
This pattern repeats, as various 4/4 figures fade in and out in the background. The effect is very dizzying and disorienting. I've composed in 3, 4, 5, 7 and 13 beats, and on a couple of tracks I switch from one sig to another here and there, but I've never tried mixing the meters up like that before. It's got to be worth a shot.

Here's some acid jungle without a discernable permanent time signature. This probably isn't to everybody's taste
