Hey guys. I'm looking for a free spectrograph/3D spectrum analyzer. Something like that small screen on Detectcomp, but bigger and more readable (labels on axis, etc).
Preferably vst. If you have a standalone (or other plug format) alternative, please also point me there.
Thanks a lot, Andrés

don't c-plugs do something like that, i'm pretty sure i've got 'em at home, but i haven't got a clue were I got em from.
If no one else finds out i'll check after work.

Checkout ConcreteFX "QSpecPro" - Just what you are looking for I think.

Thanks for that Space Boy, QSpec looks nice. Still, it's a standard 2D spectrum analyzer. What I need is a 3D one, or spectrograph. Something that will do this kind of plots:Space Boy wrote:Checkout ConcreteFX "QSpecPro" - Just what you are looking for I think.

Thanks very much, this one is good and full of features.
I get a blurred kind of sprectrogram, all brownish. Tried to play with the colors but didn't do much. Everything is watery.

That isn't 3D. It's a waveform display and a waterfall (2D) spectrogram.cordura21 wrote:Thanks for that Space Boy, QSpec looks nice. Still, it's a standard 2D spectrum analyzer. OOO: That is 3D; time is one dimension, frequency the 2nd dimension, and amplitude (represented by color) is the 3rd dimension. What other dimension were you looking for?
by the way, I was going to suggest Audacity, but someone beat me to it. Also, if you have the old-school GoldWave or CoolEdit96, these had spectrograms similar to the graphic shown above. Sometimes, the color map makes all the difference. It's nice to have contrasting brightness in adjacent cells of the color map to give more of a contour plot. That's what I use with the software I have at work for analyzing automotive sounds, but it costs over $50,000 for one license!!!

Commonly 3D means a three dimensional graphical repressentation of the FFT anylysis (visualized in an virtual room) like Wavelab it does.
Usage of a color as a fuction of frequency content isn't really 3D.
Otherwise each picture (using colors) would be 3D too.

It's a 3D representation of information. The fact that it's a 2d image doesn't contradict that.

Maybe right (from your standpoint).
But if you ask for a 3D Frequency analysis, you usually mean a real 3D plot.
Otherwise you would ask for a "waterfall" diagramm.
So for a real 3D plot (which is very often used in scientific analysis) I suggest Wavelab:
