Anyone know of any sample sites that have (or sell) samples for the Simmons SDSV or it's variants?

A web search keeps giving me hundreds of pages for "NOSTALGIA", a $199 synth which seems a little expensive for just a Simmons...

It's not just a Simmons... plenty of quite handy oldschool drum machines, samplers and synths in there. I downloaded some free sdsv samples from hollowsun way before nostalgia came out, of course he took them offline when he started the project with zero-g.

http://www.wolfgangstoelzle.de/ has quite a lot of samples too, not only sdsv but also eproms from the later Simmons. There's even a collection in LM-4 format, which should be loadable in just about everything - RMIV should handle it just fine, if memory serves.

HollowSun had the simmons at one stage to download amongst other things. There is a Japenese site somewhere on drumachines....someone might know it...mmm..

These are actually samples from Richard Burgess's SDSV.

Richard was a collaborator with Dave Simmons on the original SDSV design and was also the drummer in Landscape (he used this kit on 'Einstein a go go') and later went on to become a successful producer.

He kindly lent me his kit many years ago to get some samples for the Akai XR10 drum machine for which I prepared the samples.

So whilst these may be standard Simmons fare, they have a nice history.

Incidentally I came here to tell fandango that I am analyzing your (old) samples in order to make a Simmons SDSV'ish patch for e-phonic's drumatic 3, easily sidetracked as I am. I'll post it here when I'm satisfied with it.

Tama did a clone back in 1984 that went by the wonderfully imaginative name of Tama Techstar (a year later they made Tama Techstar II...). Since I grew up in Suburbia I only had access to a very suburbish music store when I was a kid, those were the only analog synth drums I ever got to play; the shop did not carry Simmons. But Tama's set wasn't all bad either, albeit they made the first multizone pad: snare pad had some weird sort of riser for rim shots, unfortunately it always triggered the "normal" snare sound as well, the sensitivity pot was militantly and adamantly oversensitive on either channel, sort of like a volume control going all the way from 11 to 21...

Errrrmmm... I think so - in fact, pretty much certain.

No problem. I'm a stickler for copyright protection (having been burnt many times over at the hands of 14-yr-old twat pirates ripping off my products without any compunction or conscience and affecting my legitimate income) but I do like to share as well. I hope you like the offering.

Is this a commercial product? Even if it's not, I'd have welcomed a courtesy call to ask if it's ok to use my stuff. Unless I am misinterpreting something here. What is drumatic 3?

It's a drum synthesizer plugin. I believe what he meant was he was trying to emulate the sound from the samples in a synth patch.

"Just" a very nice free drumsynth I use extensively. I'm not ripping you off here (and I agree with your stance on copyright). What I'm doing with your samples is just a spectral analysis to gather pitch, sweep and noiseband info to ease the programming, and it's all very on the ear and quite a bit imprecise Drumatic not letting you punch in absolute numbers anyway. So I'm not using your samples directly.
