I just bought Paax 3 but I'm having problems; I'd worked through the Paax 2 Freeware and had some awful effects on the .wav file. It sounded as though loads of reverb was added and it was being repeated a few times. I was in a hurry and assumed this was a result of me using the free version, but having bought Paax 3 for $45, I find the problem is still here and I'm running out of time to complete this project. If it helps at all, the effect goes away when I set it to minimum audible volume on the main tab and lasts longer at high volume.
I'm running Windows XP and Cubase SE. How can I assign it to just play the sound file in the way I uploaded it? |

Here's a couple of things to try:
a) From the Paax Pro setup screen change the MIDI Channel from ANY, to the corresponding channel that you are using in Cubase. b) When a note is being played, please take a look at the voices counter in Paax and see if it actually matches the number of samples that you have set to be simultaneously play through that key; this might help us to find out if Cubase is somehow routing doubled MIDI notes/commands. c) With the project stopped, play a few notes from the Paax embedded keyboard and check if the sound changes. Let me know if this helps. -Kotkas |

Hey there, I tried those suggestions.
a) Tried this, nothing changed b) The voice counter is showing the correct number c) The sound did change. It still repeated itself at a decreasing volume every quarter of a second (sorry, I don't know the technical term for it) but the reverb seemed to disappear. |

Update for the readers: DominF and I worked this out by email. The problem that he was facing had to do with digital distortion.
We have noticed that Cubase is particularly sensitive to clipping channels, adding strange artifacts such as a "flanging" effect. To get rid of this problem -if you ever come across- you should lower the Out x volume level in the Paax's Main screen until you hear that the distortion side-effects are gone. Notice that if your MIDI track contains any MIDI volume messages (CC 07) your manual volume setting will be overridden; in that case you would need to lower the corresponding channel in the Cubase's mixer instead, until you notice that the distortion is gone. You should trust your ears more than Cubase's clipping indicators because at certain levels you can still hear a distorted signal, yet the clipping indicator could go off. Hope this helps -Kotkas |
