There's a long list of presets for hardware synths in Tracktions midi section but nothing for a Yamaha VL70m - anyone come across one?

Looks as though you might have to roll your own - all the tools are there. I don't think it would be too terribly complicated, just time consuming.

Too time consuming if there's one out there already. If it imported text or Cubase patchnamescripts like Podium does lists that would help (or even allowed basic Windows functions like cut and paste).

I remember seeing a website that has this kind of stuff. It was a while ago when I was looking for an instrument definition file for my 18-year-old E-Mu. I can't remember now but I'll see if I can dig it up.

Here's the page http://www.cakewalknet.com/index.php?op ... &Itemid=48 but no VL70M - probably wouldn't have helped you anyhow.

Thanks - I had tracked down one for Cubase ages ago but Tracktion doesn't import them. I could make my own and might end up doing so but typing in a list of 250 presets is a bit tedious only to find its been done already.

If you can find it in .midnam format, I can convert that into tracktions format. Is that what cubase uses?

Post

No it's some sort of .xml though older Cubase patchscripts were txt based (Podium can read those but not the xml ones)

Post

I found an app that reads midnam and converts it to Cubase xml and visa versa - ah but it's MAC only:

Yes, that cherrypicker is the only program out there right now for that. Wasn't midnam a MOTU thing? Thats porbably why it's a Mac only program. I can't seem to find anything similar for the PC.

midnam is Protools but Digital Performer uses it too and it seems so can Tracktion but unfortunately the only patch list I can find for the VL is a Cubase one. Why on earth all apps can't use a common format with everyone else I'm not sure but typical of how the stupid system works.

There is a PLG150VL definition which I suspect shares a lot of the same patches with the VL and VL70m so might serve as a starting point - unfortunately that's in Cakewalks own format :bang:

OK I decided to make one - just took a couple of hours in the end. Now I can send programme changes from Tracktion and have all the presets in front of me. I've uploaded it for any other Yamaha VL70m users with Tracktion - must be some surely :)

All patchnames for banks 1 and 2 are here - custom patches can be stored in bank 3.

Wow, thanks for the hard work. I'm going to try it out as soon as I get to my music computer!

Works fine for me - you just need to create a midi track and set up the right midi outs for your hardware.

I've been trying to import this into T4 but on Mac it won't import, anyone know why? (possibly something to do with extensions, or the lack of them)
