No. sorry to tell you that but no. Nothing came close. I tested everything and yes i mean really alot of plugins. Only thing i found to be somewhat same to one degree regarding synthesis (there are nice FX too in D50) is SonicCore Vectron:

But even that synth can not do what D50 - D-550 can. You can mimic bells in Vectron etc but forget it regarding emulation. IMO you should buy that synth. They goes pretty cheap now. D-550 is rack mounted same synth, you can find a lot of nice VST editors, banks, patches etc. and you have real deal with good sound.

There was a Reaktor ensemble made by William K (author of Wusikstation) under the name Dash Synhtesis, that emulates D50 pretty well. But it's not available anymore I'm afraid, and I had to rework it completely to make it compatible with current version.dadadalei-lama wrote:I am looking for a Roland D50 VSTplugin. ...or if you don't want to buy an old D-50 - there's always the Roland product

The D50 is very cheap these days. Buy the hardware synth. Nobody wants them. I have one here. I never use it. All my VSTi instruments sound better. There is a lack of lows and highs in the sound of the instrument that makes it sound a little bit dull.

The price for a D50 is low, well, but I have stopped using hardware instruments. Plugins are much better to handle. Programming of synths like the D50 can be done easier and faster.
But I have to ask myself, why there is no real D50-Clone? You can have tons of VA-Synths, analog ones or fm-machines.
Maybe in future...

Probably not unless Roland themselves put it out (which is highly unlikely).Maybe in future...

If you do ask yourself .. and get a decent answer, can you let me know? I wanna do early Duran Duran too.dadadalei-lama wrote: But I have to ask myself, why there is no real D50-Clone?

If you like it's warm spaciuos pads... well buy it. I bought mine years ago... and I bought the MEX expansion... and well... yes still using it. The classic bells, jams, spectrum sounds are boring these days but forget the PCM structure and use it as a real warm spaciuos synth. It's really fat and warm... At the moment I have no vst being able to replicate it's full warm tone. Take a listen to Spacious Sweep preset... it's pure heaven.

Actually, the D-50 was released in 1987. The early Duran Duran albums were released as follows:Manc Chris wrote:If you do ask yourself .. and get a decent answer, can you let me know? I wanna do early Duran Duran too.dadadalei-lama wrote: But I have to ask myself, why there is no real D50-Clone?
Duran Duran - 1981
Rio - 1982
Seven and the Ragged Tiger - 1983
Notorious - 1986
A friend of mine has a D-50, and I've been bugging him to sample the raw waves from it, with the eventual goal of building an emulation in Reaktor. Shouldn't be too difficult, effects section not withstanding.

Totally agree with the above.mao wrote:If you like it's warm spaciuos pads... well buy it. I bought mine years ago... and I bought the MEX expansion... and well... yes still using it. My d50 also have the Mexx expansion. Gives more osc/per patch and huge sound.
Still some patches using these early PCM still sound great. And I try to program kinda D50 "arco stringz" patches very often when I put my hands on a new synth. Pizzis had some character too.
Not even Roland did succeed to offer these kind of strings in their following synths.
Oh and to answer the post in a less elliptic way than EW did (though ha was perfectly- right) : You wont find any D50 Vsti because its half PCM (read sample in rom) synthesis, and Roland owns the rights on the samples the d50 uses and wont allow any other company to use them.
Hope this helps

There is a Reason Refill based on samples of a D50:

Actually, my XV5080 has a bunch of D-50 sourced waves (as well as other Roland boxes), and can do passable D-50 impressions (albeit with a few limitations and you have to lo-fi it down a bit too). I've been recreating the famous D-50 Soundtrack patch for the 5080 (which doesn't use any samples).
Of course, the waves in the D-50 that are the really recognisable ones are the samples - and I think they were actually done by Spectrasonics - or at least Eric had a hand in them. I know that Spectrasonics owns and licenses some of the content to Roland (eg the V-Drums content)
