glad to see augustus loop released for windows after all the good things i've heard about it. i decided to give it a shot and really fould myself liking it. i was looking at task manager for something else and noticed that reaper (where i was using augustus loop) was consuming a few hundred megs of ram even though i only had augustus loaded. weird. closed reaper, re-opened it, inserted augustus loop, and looked at task manager again. memory usage in reaper slowly but constantly increased by just having augustus loop inserted doing absolutely nothing. i only have reaper, so i don't know if it's like this in other hosts. can anyone with reaper confirm? i'll post in the reaper forum, too. reaper has also has similar trouble with arcdev's et-200 delay whereas other hosts are fine with it, so it could be a related problem.

That sounds really odd. Augustus can use a lot of RAM, sure, if you set the maximum delay really high, but it should be a constant amount, not increasing.

Is this with the GUI open or closed?

Did you try any of my other plug-ins? They share the GUI code, so if they also show this problem then it would point to a memory leak in either my or Reaper's GUI code.

okay, i fiddled around a little more. first of all, i was able to reproduce the problem in ext2, so i guess it's not reaper-related afterall. i'll mention that in the reaper forum. with the gui open, memory slowly increases. when i close the gui, memory use drops instantly by about 16megs from whatever it had increased to, but upon opening the gui again, it instantly climbs back to where it left off and starts increasing again. this all happens with both reaper and ext2. also, don't know if it's useful, but the rate of increase looks to be around 200k/s.

i also tried your multi-tap delay plugin but had no problems. i guess 'cause it has no gui.

i then tried meringue and had the same problems as with augustus loop. meringue was awesome, by the way!

anyway, i hope you can get this sorted out 'cause augustus loop is first looper that i think has everything i need. i've tried all the other ones and they're great, but it's always like one is missing a feature that another has, but the other one is missing a feature that the first one has...

oh, incidentally, i couldn't get the max and min delay times to change in augustus loop... it shows "Delay Slider Min" and "Delay Slider Max" in the upper right corner when i put the pointer over the respective places, but i can't adjust anything. it's just limited to 0.000 for min and 10.00 for max. is this just 'cause it's the demo or am i doing something wrong?

I just installed Reaper, and I'm not seeing this memory issue. Until we gather more evidence I'm inclined to think this is specific to your machine. When was the last time you updated your graphics card drivers?

Re. the "Delay Slider Min" and "Delay Slider Max" boxes - you're supposed to be able to type values into them. Sadly keyboard handling in Windows VST plug-ins is a total mess, and some hosts don't support it properly. I'll post on the Reaper forum and see what they have to say.

well crap, i was afraid you'd say that. the graphics drivers are the latest ones (although the computer is 3 years old and the drivers haven't been updated by the manufacturer for a couple years). if it's just my computer, it'll probably be pretty hard to troubleshoot from your end since i might not be much help on the technical side of things.

oh, the boxes for max and min delay work fine in ext2, so that problem at least is reaper-specific.

Late to the party, I know, but this isn't happening to me either. Oh, and thanks for the PC build. You've made a looper very happy.

with the latest update, the memory leak has disappeared for me. but now a new problem: with the gui up, cpu usage of whatever host i'm using jumps way, way up. when i close the gui, it goes back down. granted, my computer's a couple years old, but it's not THAT old. so who knows what exactly is going on with augustus loop and me. oh, well...

I have to suspect your graphics drivers. My GUIs are written in OpenGL, so are much more sensitive to that sort of issue than most GUIs which use Windows GDI calls or similar.
You're using Windows XP SP2 right?

i have an ati radeon xpress 200m video card with 128mg video ram, if that helps. just a plain ol' run of the mill crappy laptop video card.

i'll poke around again and see if i can find some more drivers, but i don't know any place that would have anything better than the amd ati page itself...

often laptop card drivers are sourced from the laptop vendor's site, rather than the card vendor's.

unfortunately as a result they tend to lag behind the latest desktop nvidia/ati drivers.
