I just got turned on to this amazing composer and inventor. Man, this guy was SO ahead of his time! I'd love to get a chance to look at the Electronium up close. I know there's a Youtube short clip, but it's pretty much a teaser. I mean, this guy was trying to make a sequencer that use artificial intelligence to generate material based on the ideas of the user. And what about his Videola, allowing him to work on his film/ad soundtrack work using a monitor on his keyboard and a remote control unit... in the 50s!!!
I'm sure that Rachmiel, Scott Solina and Emdot are fans, but any others here?

Scott Solina? That could be construed as a comment regarding my love of the ARP Omni, I reckon. Yep, I'm a fan. Not just of his electronic stuff, but of his jazzy stuff, too. An innovative guy. The boxed set is a must have.

I'd rather like to get his "Soothing Sounds for Baby" some day, preferably in vinyl. Not because of the sound, because of the objects themselves. (N.B.: Said sounds are not what most people would think of as soothing. Interesting, yes. Soothing, no.)

Shit!
I am not worthy of making such a dumb mistake.
Scot, please feel free to refer to me as Buchlahassa, Moogalassa, Nerd B., etc
Scott's synth lines often have a little swing in them, making him, IMO, the godfather of sequenced grooves. Anyhow, I'll pick up the boxed set, Scot - thanks for the tip.

One of my friend made a tribute to him but I missed the show.

Think that's bad? I live 15 minutes by bicycle from Concordia and I didn't even know of the concert or of Scott when it took place... I heard it was really, really great.
[edit] Oh, right, you're in Montreal too! Your friend is pretty cool to set this up. What a great tribute.

I first heard Raymond Scot's Electronium-based music many years ago on a vinyl single (!) given away with the Keyboard Mag ! That was in the late 1980's.
I try to give a little tribute to Raymond's modular mayhem in most soundbanks I make. In fact, Krakli's new S3B synth has two such presets. (see ARP Raymond's Lab 1 + 2).
I love the apparent simplicity of his Electronium music. Some of these tunes are so beautiful. Certain sounds are simple and yet complex at the same time.

I've been a long-time fan of his, ever since the Dr. Demento show
clued me in as a kid who he was; for a great sampling of his pioneering
electronic work, check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattan_Research_Inc. out.

Scott was amazing - one of those one-of-a-kind polymaths who are relentlessly THEMSELVES.
Alleged, the only "production" model Electronium was purchased by Barry Gordy of Motown fame. It's probably sitting in some warehouse somewhere.

That documentary looks totally fascinating!

"Powerhouse" is one of my fav's. Now it's gonna be stuck in my head all day.
I read that during the Bugs Bunny heyday, Scott was signed to Warner Bro's so Carl Stalling could use any Raymond Scott melodic references in the cartoon scores without paying royalties. Rush's La Villa Strangiato has a nice homage referencing Powerhouse.
It's a fun riff to play on guitar by the way.

Raymond Scott was great, there's a good chapter on him in DJ Spooky's "Sound Unbound."
