Hello all-
We are ready to have any interested RECEPTOR 2 owners download and check out the release candidate for the latest V1.8 system software. This release features a number of bug fixes, UniWire support for ProTools via RTAS, as well as a bunch of new plug-ins including BFD2, Omnisphere, Kontakt 3.5, all of the IK Amp Models, ModArtt Pianoteq 3, M-Tron Pro, and KickAxxe. Please report any problems (hopefully you won't need to) to our quality assurance group via a help desk ticket created on plugorama.com. Simply create a help desk ticket with "1.8 Public Beta" as the subject and report the problem. To download the release notes, system updater, or plug-in installers, please visit the following link: http://www.museresearch.com/unprotected-downloads/receptor-1 .8-update-public-beta/ Although this release installs and works fine with all RECEPTOR 2 systems, if you have a Rev C Receptor (V1.7 software or before) you will need to swap out your drive to update your system to run V1.8 software. We apologize for the inconvenience this will cause, but after careful consideration we have determined that this is the best way to update the previous generation systems. Please stay tuned for an official announcement of your update options to run 1.8 software on Rev C. As always, thanks for your patience and support. We appreciate your efforts to help us make Receptor the ultimate way to run your favorite plug-ins! Your friends at Muse Research |

thanks, muse, it is good news to see things going.
In the release notes, it is stated that Rev C owners can do the upgrade without a harddrive swap, but they have to reformat their drive. Since this somehow contradicts your post, groovology, can you please comment on this? When I do a harddrive reformat, will all copyright protection codes still work? Particularly, what about NI's activation codes? Do you recommend de-activating the plugins before a HD reformat? |

I am interested in this method as well... Thanks, JR I wrote the release notes, and I was trying to let people know that reformatting the drive is part of the process. We are considering offering a program that lets you send in your old drive, we will reformat and load on all the new software and send it back to you for a minimal charge. Our concern about having this done in the field is that if the reformatting / reloading process fails, then you brick the drive and will be unhappy, where as if we offer it as a service, we can guarantee the drive you get will work and will be complete and functional. I KNOW this is an inconvenience, and we really wish we didn't need to reformat people's drives to do this (or swap them out, which has the added improvement of being a SATA drive with better performance) but that is the reality and we are trying to figure out the best way to inconvenience you all as little as possible... All the best Groovology |

---------------- They must think we are idiots... Actually, we don't think any one of our customers are idiots, in fact we have a lot of respect for our customers. However, we have witnessed drives getting bricked during formating, so we don't want to inflict this risk on customers who need their Receptors for gigs. Groovology |

For owners of the older/Rev C platform, is the hard drive swap a one time thing or will we have to do this each time there is an os update? Also how long does Muse project supporting the older platform with os updates? And will the Synchrosoft support that is projected for the new platform also work with the older platform?

Well, if I were to brick my drive, I could still send it in... |

two more things:
this is a beta release. Does this mean we have to send in our drive once more when the final version is released? What about selling us prepared drives? I'd be interested because I would then have a second drive as backup from which I know that it is working... |

Then, probably you might want to rephrase the following statement: Quote: If you have a Rev C Receptor this release CAN be installed on
your unit but it requires re-formatting your drive, or swapping the drive out. (from the release notes) |

If the replacement drive is SATA, it's probably worth doing anyway...
But I sure wouldn't want to be the tech support weenie who has to do all the manual scutwork. And Groovology, are you saying that you will send us back a drive with all our previous installs loaded and working, or will we get a 1.8 drive ready for us to reinstall all our plugs and presets? (Or behind door there, you install the apps and we backup and copy our patch libs while you supply the basic VST installs...) If you're doing it all on a user-by-user basis, that's a hell of a lot of work unless you have the process largely automated, including the reauthorizations... And finally, I see no mention of Arturia or Synchrosoft dongle support. Can you give us a status update on that one, please? Thanks for the effort, G. I know this will be a tremendous headache for the TS staff, but hopefully it will enable those of us with complicated setups to keep Grooving... |

When do you plan on posting the 1.8 beta. There is nothing on the site but a soon to be updated folder.

Carl Hi all We found a problem with the package installer on the "814" version of the Public Beta of 1.8. We have fixed it and will be testing it internally over the weekend. Please check back on Monday; we will post the new public beta first thing Monday morning. We are expecting that that will be the final release unless y'all can find anything... I know this will be a tremendous headache for the TS staff, but hopefully it will enable those of us with complicated setups to keep Grooving... Thats part of the delay in launching the Rev C update to 1.8 program... coming up with a system that minimizes the chances of messing things up! The plan is to offer a new drive to Rev C users (in which case they keep their old drive as a backup) and offer low-cost installation of any sofware they own. The good news is that most software won't "eat up" additional authorizations because the mobo hasn't changed... all the customer needs to do is enter in the auth number and it should "just work". We are also thinking about offering a way to send in your old drive and have it be reformatted and updated, and then we would also install the software you had previously installed (if its something we support). This eliminates the cost of buying a new drive, but it also gives you back an IDE drive that won't perform as well as the SATA Drive we would sell you in the other case. The third option is to come up with a script on a USB thumb drive that you would boot off of and that would reformat your drive in the field and install the new software. We're really reticent to do this because it is SO easy to brick a drive with this kind of thing, all you need to do is have a power glitch or bump the USB connector and you are in a heap of hurt. We know that our customers can do this, but its more our desire to make sure that the update happens absolutely reliably that is making us shy away from this approach... The added downside is that you'll have to start from scratch installing all your software, something that will take a very long time. If anyone has any other suggestions we're all ears. As for your Syncrosoft dongle support... I'm preparing a unit to go to Steinberg who has pledged their support to help us get it working. We REALLY want to get it working since there is quite a lot of cool software using Syncrosoft these days, and we'd love to get the Steinberg software running as well, of course. Thanks for your questions! Groovology |
