Hi Andy
Not sure if it is appropriate for professional Psy Trance production (although I don't know why, but then again I make dub/DnB), but G-Force's Oddity is well worth a look for sound effects.
I find that Oddity sounds brilliant and is great fun and easy to knock up new sounds.

(sorry if I have misunderstood Psy Trance though).
Thanks

Well, I think there are a million answers and, "practice," is worth more than the tools.

There is not really a "best", except the ones that work for you and it takes quite some time to work out the tools you feel comfortable using to achieve your sound, if you are not already there Smile

For my own productions Alchemy is in constant use for creating psy trance sound effects, pads, atmospherics, mashing up drum loops on the breaks, bass lines, sample playback and manipulation. There's actually a group buy on right now so you can pick up a license for a big discount. See my sig links for the Camel Audio site, a fully functional three week demo is available.

Zebra is also a great synth for psy. Albino is very useful. uTonic (a percussion synth) is generally brilliant for tuned percussion and whizzy noises, plays very well with CamelSpace (a trance gate / filter / delay multi effect) for creating percussive movement.

Hope that helps!

Peace,
Andy.

If you are on PC and you prefer to use presets Karma FX is very highly regarded specifically for it's collection of psy trance sounds. It's really good Smile

Vanguard also has some excellent psy oriented sound banks available. The IsraTrance community has quite a few free patch banks available to download.

Peace,
Andy.

Talking about Vanguard we have an ALL FX soundbank available for it on our site :

www.lelotusbleu.fr

128 Dynamic FX instruments, all controllable in real time, suited for every genre of electronic music Smile

If you have Vanguard, just listen to the audio demos, then see if it would eventually fit your needs Smile

So where's djanthony these days? HiHi

Tone 2 Firebird+ and Gladiator are great too. TBH It beats me how anyone expects to make "professional psy-trance" without knowing which instrument to use. Confused

To learn how to produce professional psytrance check out the videos on cubaseguru.com. Also isratrance.com has some long threads on psytrance production.

Psy trance is about weird effects, right? In that case I would mention the effects from Camel Audio's CamelSpace (for which there is a groupbuy at the moment) and Tone2's Warmverb.

You can feed any synths sounds to these effects and get quite spectacular results.
