Hi,

I have just released a beta version of Combo Model V, a freeware virtual combo organ modelled after a well-known combo organ from the 1960s.

If you would ike to give it a try, you can download the (Windows-only) VSTi installer from this website:

http://www.martinic.com/combov/

So far I've tested in REAPER, FL Studio, MiniHost and VSTHost/SAVIHost, but I'd like to know if it works in other hosts. So this (and any other feedback) is very much appreciated.

Any chance to have the dll and not the installer? Installers keep me away from downloads, and I'm afraid that's true for lots of other people...
Thanks!!
Audio demo sounds awesome.

Just extract the DLL and PDF using 7-zip ...

Works very well in Kore2 ... Very Happy
Also seem to work OK in Cantabile Light.

Good one Tale Love

I agree, installers that don't even write anything necessary to the registry are terrible.

Uniextract also works for installers a lot of the time.

Yes, simply extracting the DLL from the installer by hand will work. Is this good enough for you guys? Because else I could provide a direct download for the DLL as well.

Thanks for testing, and for letting me know.

Direct download as a zip file would be nice, I think - most people wouldn't know what to do (I wasn't aware at all of the solutions suggested above - thanks) and just leave it there...

I didn't want to try another organ vst, but the GUI catched my attention... I have to say that the sound is already very good, with a wide palette of sounds. I hope it's just the beginning of a large family of instruments...

This is a wonderful instrument - it sounds great and is very light on the cpu! We're not worthy.... Very Happy

The only request I would have atm is not to restrict it to the original keyrange - one additional lower ocatve would be quite nice. Smile

I have just added ZIP downloads to the ComboV website as an alternative for the installers.

Well, I do have vague plans for another specimen, so who knows... A Combo Model F perhaps? Very Happy

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll take that in consideration.

BTW, a lot of combo organs had a 5 octave keyboard with the lowest octave substituting for bass pedals. However, usually this bass octave would not actually play lower frequencies, instead it would simply repeat the lowest octave of the 16'. If you load two instances of ComboV you can mimic this behaviour.

Thanks for the zip, just downloaded and tried it - very, very nice!!
I, too, vote for one (or two, that'd be even better) extra lower octaves - the two instances idea could work, but that wouldn't exactly make for spontaneous use... would that be a big problem or can it be accomplished without too much work?

An odd behavior it displayed: in Cubase's mixer, I have a stereo channel where only the left channel works and a simultaneous second stereo channel (apparently with the same sound) with a mono signal... no big deal, I can just mute the first and use the second, but I thought you'd like to know.
Thanks!

Sounds great. Three things:

1. I think maybe the drawbars and keys larger, and the focus of the GUI instead of the top lid of the organ would be a major improvement.

2. A volume knob is needed. Sometimes backing off the drawbars takes too much off the volume with no way to compensate.

3. Make the settings/tuning window smaller.

Overall though, I'm quite impressed. It's definitely got "that" sound.

...or you could just add an extra low octave and achieve the same effect. Wink Razz
