PPG Wave 3.V

Post

Hi everyone, Waldorf just released the official update v1.0.1 for PPG Wave 3.V:

http://www.waldorfmusic.de/en/downloadsppg3.html

Windows: http://www.waldorfmusic.de/en/downloads ... ndows.html

Mac: http://www.waldorfmusic.de/en/downloads ... 8-mac.html

The changes from v1.0.1 are written in the included readme file:

"What's new in V1.0.1?

• Improved 2.2 and 2.3 oscillator CPU performance both for Waves and Transients.

• Voice deallocated automatically when Transient playback of both oscillators are finished to save performance especially with drum sounds. Please note that Transient sounds imported from the Waveterm B Sample Library don't show this behavior by default since they always have LOOP set to ON. Switch it to OFF for percussive Transients.

• [Mac] Installer now uses root authorization rather than administrator authorization. According to Apple this should not make a difference but a number of people reported problems installing the PPG Wave 3.V on the Mac. Please report to support@waldorfmusic.de if the installer still reports a failed installation and include the installation log.

• [Mac] Fixed Audio Unit problems in Ableton Live when switching programs. Might also have affected performance in Logic. "

I'll check this update as soon as possible.

CPU use is really improved. I checked this with my factory sound "Hypersaw Pad 3 IW" which uses transients and the Wave 2.3 True PPG mode and the improvement at playing a chord is around 7-13% with a global voices setting of 24, tested on a Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU.

Andy.

I think when I first heard about this there was no upgrade from PPG 2V - it looks like there is now an upgrade? Can someone confirm? PPG 2V I've had for many years now, it's not a new purchase.

ps does it make any difference that it was sold under the Steinberg brand?

Yes, it's for 2.V users too. This is also written at the online shop:

http://www.waldorfmusic-shop.de/epages/ ... D=19270228

text from the Online Shop:
"The PPG Wave 3.V Upgrade is for users who already own PPG Wave 2.V and want to upgrade to PPG Wave 3.V. Owners of all versions of PPG Wave 2.V, including the Waldorf Edition, are eligible for this upgrade. Simultaneous purchase of both Waldorf Edition and this upgrade is also possible."

Hurry up to get the update until Saturday. From 1.1.2011 on the upgrade will be 119 Euros instead of 99.
The full version/boxed version will be 169 Euros instead of 149 Euros then.

I wonder if that also applies to other online stores, too, after new year?
Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here. ;)

Thanks Ingo. There are so many offers around at the moment I'm losing track. This is one I don't want to miss!

I think the best deal for people who will buy it new (not upgrading from 2.V) can be had at JRR Shop. Hope they will retain that price after new year, too.

AFAIK the prices will be raised next year but maybe it's different at some online shops.

If you buy the Waldorf Edition now for 59 Euros and upgrade later for 119 Euros you'll pay almost the same as for the full version (59 + 119 = 178 Euros). At the Online version of the Waldorf Edition you'll already receive the new version 1.2.9 AFAIK which works on all OS including Windows 7 64-bit (without any of those "tricks" posted somewhere at KVR).

ok, I've got it and am flipping through the presets. I've noticed you can't change the program in Cubase SX3 - it seems stuck on the first prest - so that if you cycle a short sequence it goes back to program 1 each time. I've just tested it in PPG 2V and that allows you to set up the programme within Cubase.

But what I have heard sounds very good :)

Thanks for the info. But I think that works out to be quite a bit more expensive than getting the 3.V directly from JRR Shop, as 178 Euros is about 230 USD and you can get 3.V at JRR Shop (with forum discount) at around 160 USD. :)
