Recycling my contest entry again.

Theme was to do with the roots of genres. I did country. Except for the rhythm guitar everything is a first take because I thought I was pressed for time.

mp3 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .ogg

2:37
3.5MB mp3 / 2MB ogg

Lyrics:
Tell my ma and tell my pa that I will not be home
I've got that wanderin' fever and, buddy, I've got to roam
Tell my ma and tell my pa that I do love them so
But when a body's got that wanderin' fever then a body's got to go

Here comes that train
Burning down the track
When it goes doggone it I'm a-gonna be on it
And I'm not going back

Tell my girl when I've seen the world I will send for her
But I've got that wanderin' fever and, buddy, there ain't no cure
Tell my girl, yes tell my girl that I do love her so
But when a body's got that wanderin' fever then a body's got to go

Repeat chorus

Nicely done! Although the genre is quite forgiving, I find the vocal strays a little far from the melody at times. Otherwise a classy little tune, and a solo section too! Yee-haw! Smile

Great lyrics as always Hink. As Randy Jackson would say, 'A Little pitchy', but pretty darn good for a first take.
I think you should seriously tidy this up and add some percussion , like Rosanne Cash' Tennessee Flat Top Box.
I just heard that line mixed in all the way thru it.

Good song, I like it a lot. The voice is little "unconfident", so to say, which doesn't fit the country frame I build in my mind, yet I'm not really an enthusiast of the genre. In contest context, I thought it sounds way more post-country than country-roots, which ain't bad at all outside of it.

I wondered who wrote them.

Thanks for listening and commenting, everyone. I appreciate it.

This is a really good tune. Push the vocals to the forefront a bit more and you've got a veritable old-fashioned Johnny Cash tune. Keeping the percussion to an absolute minimum (if not at all) is definitely the way to go to keep your song true to its roots too.

what a great song! true, the vocals could be a bit more in tune, but it takes nothing away from the song - it would just sound wrong if they were perfect Smile

neil.

this is a really good tune mr miltz. yeah, what others said: a little pitchy and unconfident, first take, yadda yadda... so was Johnny Cash (and others) sometimes Wink weren't no auto pitch correct plug at Sun Records don't ya know...

anyhoo, whatever confidence the vocal lacked was more than made up by the instrumentation and overall feel. lyrics I dug completely. i TOTALLY am hearing a high harmony vocal in that chorus. that'd be so cool.

thanks for sharing. this is like some lost 50s-60s-70s era country classic. Thumbs Up!

Great interpretation, great feeling.
I LIKE that the voice isn't perfectly in pitch.
Thank's to you for share.
