EDIT : You aren't going mad, I did say Kontakt to start.
Turns out it's Phenome causing me the problems, with a Floating Point Error. Anyone else get this crash ? And are there any other good soundfont players for Cubase other than (I think) cakewalks, which has stopped working for me. Cheers ears. ---- Forward ever, Backward never |

Shortcircuit should be solid. |

I was kinda hoping for a one stop shop for Soundfonts tbh, I could just load it into Kontakt. Phenome, when it was working ok, was ideal, so i'm looking for something 100% stable.
I've seen the list on here, just would rather take advice off someone who uses one a lot, cos it's almost cost me this project i'm working on I had to reinstall Cubase after this crash. ---- Forward ever, Backward never |

I use SF2's quite a bit and also quit Phenome because of crashes. Shortcircuit1 has never caused trouble and runs very light, but prefer to use SC2 despite the occasional crash just because of its brilliant interface and search + preview feature. With DAW autosave every 3 minutes it's no big deal to reload anyway.
There are many SF2 players, but imo only Phenome, SC1 & 2 and SFZ+ are good enough of what I've tried. Cryologic might be good, but haven't tested. But if you prefer Kontakt only, your best bet would be a sample converter and be done with it. Awave demo is quite usable and might convert what you need for now. |

You might be right, just convert n stick with Kontakt.
But DSK do a soundfont player, I'll try that out, the Cryologic one is said to be unstable. ---- Forward ever, Backward never |

Dsk admitted to downloading free samples and then not asking permission, then he got all mean to everyone.
I used to use sfz, so I don't know of any others. Dsk probably used se 1.1's sample osc, which I think is Phenome, as opposed to the soundfont osc. |

If you can find SafFron from Fretted Synth, it's never been a problem,
has a nice set of multi-fx, and a Gorgeous ArtVera gui Cheers |

Just curious why you're not even considering SC1? |

both people in my 'band' use SC1, and Soundfonts make up over half of our libraries.
The Jeskola one, though, does have the best sound quality out of just about any sampler, so there is that ---- resistors are futile. you will be simulated. |

Cryologic is quite stable (I had only a couple of multiprocessor bug reports until now). There is a free version available for download, just give it a try to see if it's stable enough on your PC Cheers, Max |

It's just something about SC1 I don't like, probably the gui. It's a personal thing, nothing against it as a plugin, I just don't like it. Plus i've always regarded it as a sampler, and I've got that covered with Kontakt. I was looking just for a 1 stop shop for quick loading of SF2 files. Phenome was the answer until it started destroying Cubase and my other plugins. By that I mean, it crashed out Cubase and almost deafened me with a noise from my monitors that is a wonder it didnt blow them up. Seriously it was THAT bad. It had a load of knock on problems which almost cost me the project i'm working on. Had to reinstall various vst's and Cubase itself to get it back to normal thanks to phenome. I've removed the sf2 players for now, i'm going to test them 1 by 1 for stability, I can't afford another mess up like that again. Maybe I am selling SC1 short here, ill get it and try it out with SF2 files ---- Forward ever, Backward never |
