Rez 3 has finally been released! Additionally, I've also released three commercial banks for it ($10 each, or a bundle of all three for $25), and I've even redesigned my website.
Rez 3 Rez has undergone a major overhaul - it's more powerful, more flexible, and meaner than ever. In addition to all its new features and enhancements, it has also received a new GUI that comes in two flavors - black and yellow, and yellow and black. Rez is still free, and you can download it here: Rez3.zip (SynthEdit / Win 32) For those who haven't tried it before, Rez is a seemingly basic synth but it's capable of a very wide range of sounds. While Rez has a bunch of cool features, the beating heart of Rez is its filter. It's made from multiple chained filters acting as a single powerful filter and it's highly resonant, providing Rez with its distinctive character. Top that off with distortion, a phaser, various oscillator modulations, delay, and a programmable arp and step sequencer, and you've got quite a flexible a synth in a very small package. You may be surprised at what this little monosynth can do. New features: • Updated tone - can be brighter and more aggressive than before, and capable of sounds earlier versions couldn't do • 16 step programmable arpeggiator with dedicated arp sequencers for gate length, cutoff, portamento, and phaser frequency • More arpeggiator playback options • Cutoff offset control - reduces the cutoff of one of the internal filters relative to the other to provide chewier, more vocal sounds when at high resonance • More aggressive distortion with three tone modes • Lo-Fi mode simultaneously adjusts the bit-rate and downsampling of chained bit-crusher modules • Age control - think increasingly unstable/noisy/broken oscillators, rather than the subtle drift of an old analog • Phase reset - when activated, the phase will snap back into alignment when the age and detune sliders both hit zero • Improved/expanded oscillator phase modulation options - in addition to the previous phase offset options, you can now also adjust the amount that the output of the main oscillator can modulate the phase of the sub-oscillator • Sub-oscillator octave adjustment • Delays now go up to 1/128 • Delay modulation • Aftertouch modulation of both oscillator phase functions • Velocity support for the amp envelope • Pitch bend range adjustment • MIDI learn • Easier to see/use GUI (with two variations: yellow and black) • 24 demo presets from Clockwork, Foundation, and Aurora • Multi-core compatible ............................................ Demo songs These songs exclusively use presets from the new banks for the melodic sound sources, and no additional processing was used. While they do use additional sources for drums, some use Rez for the synthetic percussion parts too. Clockwork (GilJ) Foundation (Vox) Aurora - ElectroBorealis (Irion Da Ronin) If you'd like to hear more, I've got lots of other great Rez demo songs up at my site too. ............................................ Rez 3 Banks I love releasing freeware, but I can't always afford to put so much time into developing something I'll give away. So in an attempt to find a sustainable middle ground, I'm trying something new: Rez 3 is free, but I'm charging for the presets. The synth comes loaded with a bank of 24 demo presets from the three commercial banks available for it, offering a taste of each sound type the banks provide. If you like what you hear, please considering buying some banks. If this business model turns out to be successful enough, you may see a whole lot more freeware from me.
Making full use of Rez 3's arp sequencer, Clockwork is a well-rounded rhythmic collection that includes 96 arpeggiated melodic presets and 32 percussive groove presets. Features: 128 presets - 96 arps / 32 grooves Format: FXP Price: $10
Foundation offers 64 basses that range from analog classics to brutal hammers, and 64 leads that run the gamut of electronica - from anthem inducing hook creators and quirky synthetics, to raw industrial power. Features: 64 basses / 64 leads Format: FXB Price: $10
Aurora brings you sounds you might never have expected from a little monosynth. Meeting at a crossroads of digital and virtual analog, 75 pads glide, swirl, and shiver; 26 percussive sounds knock, tap, thump and twang; and 27 effects offer further unique accents. Features: 75 pads / 26 percussion / 27 SFX Format: FXB Price: $10 Bundle Deal If you're interested in all of them, you can save by purchasing a bundle of all three for $25. ............................................ New site I've completely rebuilt my site, and it's a huge improvement over the previous one. It's easier to navigate, easier to read, looks better, and has plenty of new content. I've also greatly reduced the dependency on Flash.
............................................ So there you have it! It's been a long time in the making, but everything is finally out. I hope you enjoy Rez 3, the banks, and the new site. As always, if you write anything with Rez 3 then please let me know. I'm always interested to hear what people create with my plug-ins. |

Thanks so much for this! I will certainly be checking this out as soon as possible and probably making my own presets and in time releasing at least one bank. Thanks again. |

Thanks ugo. Website looks great (although it's a very slow loader here on the end of a telephone line). Good luck with the new business model. |

Oh cruel world! I saw the announcement this morning and had just enough time to buy the preset packs before running off to work. Now I will be tormented all day by the sonic-ey goodness I'm missing out on today.
The website looks great, by the way. Congratulations on the release; I'm sure a lot of hard work went into it. |

Just want to say, I quite liked Rez 2, though not enough to use on a track, but this... THIS is beautiful! I'm talking primarily about the tone space you've got here, it's very unique and pleasing. Loving the way the parameters work together and are calibrated. It's kinda psychedelic/funky and industrial in equal measures!
The included presets are very tempting, as well. I loved them. Very inspiring and usable. I hate using presets, but may get these anyway. Amazing job, and thanks for making the engine/gui free |
