'bout time we had more of your stuff here Very nice and floaty sort of ethereal sounds, sort of half-heard dream conversations. |

Very good. Reminds me of some of the Fripp Radiophonic series. Quite dark in a light sort of way, if you catch my drift.

Hey rachmiel, nice sounds...I was wondering how you go about creating the atmosphere though...
I'm new to creating this type of music and would like to broaden my understanding of the fundamental elements needed in creating a living, breathing, pad-like atmosphere, such as the one you have so perfectly created here.. It is as the others have stated, and very dream-like....almost like spirits are whispering to me while Im travelling through a condensed state of unconscious harmony, and at times even a bit of delerium... anyways I was wondering If you had any age-old techniques you could share with me so I may also some day be able to structure my ambient atmospheres so sophisticatedly as to spark an awe in those who choose to listen... Thanks !! and good stuff...I look forward to hearing more from you !! Timothee!! |

so here, in broad strokes, is what i did:
- acquired the theme music to the original Gilligan's Island tv show (1:35) - played it at .1 to .5 times its original speed in grains from 1 to 1000 ms long - added gobs of resonance and delay/reverb to this - mixed panned forward and backward versions of this - did minimal mastering (no compression, just a tad of EQing) it all went quite quickly, which was refreshing, because it usually takes a TON of time before i end up in a place where i feel a piece is "done." |
