I got the kit today, and overall I'm loving it, but there are a few issues I've encountered with it.
First, I'm not finding any multi-out controls. In other kits I've used, each individual drum is loaded as its own instrument and each of those can be assigned to its own output, but the Tea Towel kit loads the entire kit into one instrument so I can't do that. The PDF documentation sounds like it might have that information, but it wasn't included with the download for some reason. Second, the hi-hats cut each other off. I know this is desirable for situations where a closed hit would cut off an open hit since there's no way they could play at the same time, but it's really noticeable on the open hits with a high-velocity hit followed by a low velocity-hit. The Ossifar kit (also a great sounding kit, by the way) had the same issue, but I was able to fix it by setting all groups to the same exclusive group, increasing the number of simultaneous voices on the open hits, then setting the closed and tancat groups to a separate voice group with only one voice. Unfortunately I couldn't do this with the Tea Towel kit because all of the hi-hat articulations were included within the same group. Any advice or information regarding this issues would be very much appreciated. Last edited by Tansunn on Mon Oct 31, 2011 8:42 pm; edited 2 times in total |

Hi Tansunn, Here's a link to the PDF: http://samples.wavesfactory.com/readmeteatowel.pdf We are currently working on a new vintage kit that will have more options than Tea Towel Drum, like midi learn, output selector, custom faders and knobs, mute, solo, vu meters, etc. And you'll can use it with Tea Towel Drum kit also. I'll try to fix the hi hat issue. Thanks for the advice. |

Thanks for the PDF. I tried following the instructions in it but the multi-out still wasn't working for some reason. It got me on the right track, though, and I got it to work by manually changing the outputs for each group that belonged to a particular microphone (BD - st.1, SD - st.2, SDB - st.3, etc.).
I'm definitely looking forward to the new kit and script, too. I'll be keeping an eye out for when that becomes available. |

@wavesfactory: just try and get that hi-hat as smooth and as realistic as possible. It was really the only aspect of Tea Towel that needed to be tweaked.
Thanks again. |

I modified the Tea Towel patch so the open hihat sample continues ringing when the open hihat is struck repeatedly. All other hihat articulations cause it to stop.
Also included are two presets for the Ossifar drums, one that stops any open samples only when the pedal closed articulation is triggered, and one that stops them with closed hits as well. Hopefully people might find these useful until the new update is released. http://www.mediafire.com/?a9aeck8735zgyqm |

You're welcome, guys, and I'm glad you find them useful.
It was easier than I thought it would be to modify the patches, it just seemed rather daunting at first because there were so many groups to work on. The process was actually fairly simple, but the fact that I had to do it 48 separate times put me off at first. In the end, the hardest part ended up being the eye strain from reading all the tiny sample filenames to figure out which were open and which were closed. I'll make a second patch tonight where only the pedal closing articulation cuts off the open hihats so the closed hihats don't cut themselves off. I prefer that method for sequencing, but having the closed hits cut off the open hits tends to work better for live playing. |

Thanks Tansunn! That was very kind of you to share this fix with everyone.
@wavesfactory I'm looking forward to the official Tea Towel Kit update and the upcoming drum library! |

Well, I've got some good news and some bad news...
The good news is, I made the second patch like I said I would. I've included it along with the previous presets here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/tk1478rlt3r7p18/Hihat%20Mods.z ip The old one was renamed (Pedal+Closed) and the new one is called (Pedal) to indicate which articulations will cut off the open hihat. The latter prevents the closed hihat samples from cutting themselves off, but requires you to trigger one of the pedal articulations to cut off the open hihat (not recommended for live playing). The bad news is, I didn't test what is probably the most important feature in the Tea Towel Kit - the multiple microphones. You can't adjust the mic levels in my presets without potentially screwing things up. To create the presets, I had to make new groups so I could assign the samples to different voice groups with a varying number of simultaneous voices, then assign those voice groups to the same exclusive group so they would have an effect on each other. (Ugh, why did they have to call everything some kind of "group"? That sentence is so confusing.) Since one voice group allows 5 simultaneous voices and the other only allows 1, triggering a sample from the second group stops any samples in the first from playing. However, as far as I can tell, the new groups I created aren't referenced by the UI script, so adjusting the mic volume knobs has no effect on them. I was hoping simply duplicating the existing groups would be enough to copy any existing links between them and the UI script, but that appears to not be the case. Unfortunately, the UI script is password protected so I can't modify it myself. If Wavesfactory feels like modifying the script in these presets for us before the official update is released, if my assumptions are correct, all that needs to happen is to make a connection between the volume knobs in the UI and the new groups I had to create. They follow the same naming scheme as the original presets, except the new groups in the (Pedal+Closed) preset end in HHO, and the new groups in the (Pedal) preset end in HHP (for Open and Pedal respectively). In the meantime, as long as you don't adjust the volume levels for each mic, you should be fine with these. |
