I find that the combination of BootEQI mklI (adding 2-4 db at around 50 khz, the frequency will vary of course depending on the signal) feedin into the Ferric TDS mentioned above (both are free, from Variety of Sound
http://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/vst-effects/) works great for subtle couloring / taking the digital sheen off things. SKNote's Roundtone is also very good. |

sadkin wrote: Yes, intended for individual tracks but it sounds a little better to me when subtlety is desired than compared to the waves Kramer and even the CDSoundmasters VTMM2 - which perhaps is too subtle; for me, it is hard to hear what it is doing until it is driven into the red - at that point I am no longer dealing with subtle saturation then am I?
A couple of things to consider: - Waves Kramer MPX "emulates" a different tape machine with different tapes - UAD can be used for 2 track, it's not limited to "multitrack" - VTMM2 is designed to work alongside CDSoundMaster's Nebula Programs - The hotspots of these mentioned plugins should all reside around -18dB RMS = 0 VU, so proper gainstaging is essential (see my KVRmarks) sadkin wrote: I would imagine the Slate VCC and Stripbus could do some nice console style saturation too - I am now very curious how the new Waves console plug-in sounds. I know that is a different type of 'Saturation' but still desirable in many instances. StripBus aims to sound like two not exactly defined consoles. One Tube, one Solid State IIRC - rumor has it, that one of the consoles was inspired by a German firm. Slate VCC offers a Neve, a SSL 4k (but E I think), a RCA Tube console, a Trident and an API - ages differing from late 70ies to early 90ies. Waves NLS will offer another SSL (4k, but G), an EMI TG12345 Mk4 from the 70ies, and a custom Neve 5116 (around 80ies). Sonimus Satson offers (IIRC) a Solid State Console (aimed at SSL), and another one along the lines of API or Neve. Dunno off hand at the moment. Then there are other usual suspects like TESSLA PRO (internal reference level 0dB, not aimed to emulate anything) and NastyVCS (see Tessla Pro), then there's MellowMuse CS1V (no further info available but "one's darker, one's flatter"), Terry West's SATURN (not emulating any particular console) and of course UAD's NEVE 88RS (channel strip only), or Nomad Factory's British Bundle (NEVE EQ from the 10xx series). Just to name a few, not forgetting Acustica Audio Nebula (Presets by Alex B), REDLINE PREAMP, SoundToys Decapitator, MellowMuse SATV, URS Saturator, McDSP Analog Channel, Solid State Logic Duende Native, etc. Tape wise you have just as much flavor, like: Nomad Factory MAGNETIC (1 and 2 with even more tape models), Acustica Audio Nebula (with proper presets), UAD, SKnote, Waves, SKnote's RoundTone, ToneBooster FEROX, Variety of Sound FERRIC TDS, then Steinberg is working on a newer tape machine with Yamaha, I saw rumors about Slate joining the tape game as well, ... If you're clever enough, you can even "abuse" tape delay sims like the Roland Space Echo (or GSi's GS-201 Tape Echo), GSi WatKat, TAL's DubDelay II and that other firm I forgot it's name (another Space Echo "clone" with massive enhancements) for saturation. Your possibilities are endless as of late. You can definitely build your custom dream console that noone else has. sadkin wrote: I need to check out this UBK1 - looks very intriguing - sometimes I feel totally 'out of it'.

PSP MixSaturator2 in Shape mode: 'Tape-1'.
Start with Saturation 100%, Input +12 db (fully distorted). Then slowly turn down either or both to taste. It highly depends on material you throw at it. Turn on and off to check if it sounds/glues better with your settings, you obviously don't want to make things sound worse, only better. ---- Cowbells! |

It's 32bit only I did stress to Gregory that 64bit was needed for 64bit logic and he did say they will work on it, you can trace this back on the Gearsluts thread. |

Check this Thread post numbers 453 & 454 I mention the problems with 32bit and get a positive reply. Post 459 I drive the message through hard as I show him the email that most developers got off apple warning them to get 64bit sorted as the next logic won't cater for 32bit plugins. |

Mixsaturator is just right for the job or maybe try PSP Vintage Warmer. |

Nebula 3.5 Pro + this into this. When you don't want the EQ boosts then just use a normal EQ to "de-emphasis" the curve (using Christian Budde's analyzer or plugin compare thing).
It's worth noting that the demo programs are ok indicators of what you are getting but I very highly recommend purchasing the full versions as they sound significantly better. Yeah, I just revealed my "secret sauce". Cheers! bManic ---- "He who asks is a fool for five minutes, he who does not ask remains a fool forever" |
