Still for Z3ta AND Rapture $75.00 each. That's a good deal. I LOVE Rapture. I have read less than enthusiastic reviews of DimPro. If Surge is under $100.00 - That's a good deal.

Too bad you didn't ask this question back in December when I bought FxSpansion's
"Synth Squad" for $100.00. Strobe, Amber and Cyphers are great and what Fusor can do with them is pretty interesting(the four come together in this bundle)
At first I didn't think I would of paid the full $250.00 price. But after using them for a couple months, can live without it. Also too bad you missed the No-brainer special or Z3ta+1 for 20 bucks. Also but not what you are after I picked up FX's "Geist" for $150.00 instead of $250.0.
Seeing a pattern here?
As suggested be on the look out for these special and no-brainers that pop up all the time. This is how I discovered the above prices for this software.
I use the above and it is not because of the price, I was just fortunate to be
aware of them and had the cash on hand.and don't have many more VSti's I use
now as I have weeded them out. Oh I forgot to Mention Wusik Station. Great for ambient, sound track stuff although you can get some musical Va kind of sounds.
I use it a lot as well. For what it can do the price is well worth it. Seems like they always have some promo going on so it can be had from around 40-50 I think. So my advise would be several considerations. 1. Save for something that goes over your budget but after you took the time to download and demo some of the suggested ones that are above of your price range.2. Check out the ones in your budget suggested here and consider each one.3. Have your plastic ready when
some outrageous deal pops up

This is good advice. If you can be patient and put some money away specials and sales come along quite often. I picked up Geist for £75 a couple of months ago. There's places beyond kvr that are worth keeping an eye on like audiomidi. Lots of music retailers have sales at various times and there are the regular GBs from IK Multimedia. Smile

since the OP said this ? was not limited to just synths.....

The Glue by Cytomic is incredible!

As well as Valhalla Room or UberMod by Valhalla DSP.

These are great plugs regardless to the reasonable prices.

Stretch to $149 for the PC Synth Bundle and get Rapture, DimPro and Z3TA+2 together; that's less than $50 each; you'll be busy for a long, long time with some extremely high-quality, usable, and mature synths. IMHO. Smile

I have all three and don't like them too much, though even I can admit that that's a great deal and certainly enough of a palette for making nearly any music.

Personally, the only synths under $100 that I use regularly are SQ8L and Mini SID. If ACE eventually gets the sound of DIVA (as has been alluded to, if not promised), it will be the best sounding under $100 synth that's ever existed, IMO.

We're contemplating the ladder or cascade model for ACE, as those are similar to what the ACE filter is built upon in the "oldfashioned" way. The other filters in Diva won't provide for the multiple outputs required in ACE.

We'll see. OTOH there's a freshly built Eurorack waiting for my return from vacation, equipped with a storeload of exotic and interesting filters.

If you want the sound of Diva, get Diva! I would much rather ACE go in directions other than Diva...

It is! $99 and it's among of the best synth out there.
As of now though, Diva is the Diva in my collection of VST but I use Surge daily.

I am able to budget $100 a month to my hobby so please let me know what you think are the best plugins in that price range. It seems most top synths are starting @ $150, what are the economy but still very high-quality instruments out there? The kind isn't important, from VA to just plain weird, whatcha got? Thanks in advance!

If I were in your situation, I'd simply save several months and get one of those 'top' synths.

You don't have to spend your 100 each month right? It isn't going to disappear if you don't spend it? You can save it and the next month you have 200 dollars and can pick something from the next highest shelf at the carnival game. hyper
