I'm a preset tweaker (but not always though). It would kill my creative song writing/jamming moods if I had to create all the sounds from scratch everytime that I would need them.
So thank God for (quality) presets |

Love the idea of having a lowered price for a synth 'version' coming without any factory presets! ---- __________________________________________________ http://soundcloud.com/red-fog http://soundcloud.com/sleeping-on-lotus-ashes http://landofthedrones.blogspot.ca/ __________________________________________________ |

Lotuzia, right on with your comments. I will listen to the presets, to get an idea of what someone else has done with the instrument/effect. Sometimes, I get so caught up in the my workflow, I have tunnel vision, and hearing or seeing what someone else has done, can help break me from that. so presets can inspire more creativity, or just the opposite.. double edged sword. I am sure over the years i have used a preset, and there is nothing wrong with that...they are wonderfully handy when putting a rough idea on disc...
I do like to make my own sounds, but sometimes a preset will hit close and only reqires some tweaking. My one pet peeve is the completely non sensical naming of most sounds.. a more descriptive name would help for sure. and I do agree that a new preset bank CAN be like getting a whole new instrument..sometimes. Cheers bl_zebub ---- some people are just dicks, and think the worst of everyone. |

On our site you can listen to hours of audio demos for a lot of instruments. It can't harm Well there's also a time factor in all that. I first thought I was the slowest worm in the industry with my average time spent to create a preset, wich is around 40mn. Not counting the presets wich at the end I dont include in the soundbank, or are not taken by the developers. Add to this the audio demos, manuals, install procedure, global tasks like press releases, site maintenance, service to users, etc etc. But let's speak of the making alone of the instruments, after exchanging with some talented guys like BT, it happens that they spend the same time than me to create a preset. So a full month is required for a standard 150 patches soundbank. Sometimes .... more. Who has this time to create some banks of instruments for each of their synthesizer ? Very few people is my guess. So its not only a matter of -minimal - skills, its also and before everything else a matter of time. Besides this I firmly believe in the richness of "different approaches" in sound design. Different SDs will make different instruments, thats what is interesting in good factory libraries. I'm myself a proud preset whore, even after having designed thousands of patches, I'm still amazed sometimes to play instruments crafted by some different talented people, with the exact same synths I've sweated on. Difference, music, hard work, joy of playing : these are the keywords imho. ---- www.lelotusbleu.fr Soundbanks for Vsti 5000+ Instruments for 23 Vstis, 8 Sound Designers, Hours of audio Demos. Erf no, just kidding Cheers, LtZ I use Kontakt only for my own samples About your other post: I spend a lot of time on some presets too! Some presets are done within minutes but for some I really need days It all heavily depends on the complexity of the synth of course Cheers Dennis ---- Back from the dead - Sorry if I didn't answer your mails/PM/whatever during the last few months. Oh - that would be awesome. I would love a reduced-price Kontakt since I don't need the factory content. NI - are you listening? Pretty please? |

without presets i would be lost .
i tried learning making my own presets but i have no talent for it. it mostly ends up with some accidential noise that i have no use for in my music. others are a lot better at it , so i use theirs there is no way i would buy a synth without presets. that was a big plus for the sylenth 1. the dune " legacy pad" is very good too. |

Difference, music, hard work, joy of playing : these are the keywords imho.[/quote] Exactly..I love that... to play instruments created by others on the synths you sweated on...Bravo!! Every one is completely different when playing, making a sound..or for some a noise Others takes on what we use and create is what drives the human spirit to keep on cvreating...inspiration. I am also with you..I am about 40 mins or more a sound... has to be perfect..well perfect for me...whiuch is why I love hearing the presets, and soundbanks others make.. is that those sounds are perfect for them, usually completely different from mine, and usually opens my mind to something different--ALWAYS A GOOD THING!!
