Hi,
Minimonsta can produce some kind of very thick / deep basses. However, it doesn't come with a very nice step/modulation seq'er like Sub Boom Boom / predator. Is there any vst which fulfill my requirement? Cheers! Cowby |

Why not use a step sequencer like Sugarbytes Thesys and patch it into Minimonsta. Then you can drive whatever plugins you want with it, rather than limiting yourself to just the one with the built-in sequencer.
Thesys took a little headscratching for me to get going, but it's very good. |

Glen Stegner's MiniMogue VA has a trance-gate type arp setting, not sure off the top of my head but I dont think it has individual step note controls so its not really a sequencer per se. But, Ive tried every freeware Mini emulator I know of and Glen's sounds the best IMO, besides Model E, but among indy dev'ed made-to-be-free its my preference.
But pretty much all the free Mini emus sound good, the difference is mainly onboard fx or lack of. As for sequencers, you ought to check out TubeOhm STEP4free which comes bundled with the nice Powertran Transcendant emulation Anti-Transpirant. Its a damn fine analog-style mono sequencer with plenty of things to play with, however Ive read others' reporting as well as personally experienced timing issues after a while running (in Ableton). If you want to spend around 40 euro, WOK ClockWOrK is the best analog-style seq Ive used. STEP4free has some controls which aren't so easy to control smoothly live with hardware (the octave -1/0/+1 switches and the hold knobs mostly), while ClockWOrK has exactly the right amount of controls. Thesys is a great one too, but if you're unfamiliar with step sequencers in general it might be overwhelming and awkward but once you get to know it youll find its incredibly inspirational, powerful, flexible, and surprisingly intuitive. Its definitely one of the vertebrae of the backbone of my live setup. Everything Sugarbytes releases is instantly legendary. |

I think using an external step sequencer/arp is better than the built-ins, since you can use them with any VST and shop around independent of the sound engine. Catanya is my choice since it fits how I work well. i want to give Thesys a shot but it costs too much for my budget, I won't download the demo just in case it is too good |

Sugarbytes' Consequence is both There are also standalone sequencers out there, many free. Seq303, Seq24 (piano roll/clip based sequences), MPG64, Defective Recs' Klee and M185 (check the Klee, its something wonderful that must be seen to be believed), various MaxMSP standalones (check cycling74 site, in the 'tools' and 'projects', many require Max but plenty don't) Xoxos has a bunch of interesting algorithmic sequencers, Populous is my favorite, its based around genetic algorithms, you literally grow and evolve your sequences |
